Since the premiere of WandaVision on Disney+, which went on to be quite critically acclaimed, the Scarlet Witch has gone from a side character to one of the MCU’s most beloved and mainstream heroes, and it looks like Olsen’s character might be finally getting the huge recognition that she deserves in Marvel’s superhero world.

The internet is already blazing with rumors about a potential Scarlet Witch solo film, which is reportedly underway at Marvel Studios. Although we do not have any official confirmation yet, Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda, has made it pretty clear that WandaVision will not be renewed for a second season anytime soon. This leaves the character quite free for another potential theatrical outing.

While we will get to see a lot of Wanda in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with Stephen Strange, it is also quite clear, as demonstrated earlier in WandaVision, that Scarlet Witch has a lot more to offer than a simple supporting role in a film. Doctor Strange 2 will undoubtedly see more progress in her personal story, revealing more of her powers and abilities, solidifying her as one of the most powerful Avengers till now. However, tapping into the story of Wanda totally – her story and potential, this rumored solo movie on Scarlet Witch is the best way to go ahead. WithWanda’s family scattered across the whole multiverse, growing powers, her brittle emotional state, and an abundance of unused storylines from the Marvel comics, there’s no better character prepared for a solo outing at the moment than the Scarlet Witch.

It looks like going ahead, a large chunk of Wanda’s story will be revolving around having them back. There are some rumors that the next installment of Doctor Strange will be seeing Wanda looking for and possibly finding her sons.

However, given the rough road, she has been on until now, alongside the ominous warning from the witch, Agatha Harkness, it seems inevitable that the Scarlet Witch is destined for a destructively dark path, and it seems highly unlikely that this will be the kind of heartwarming reunion that she deserves. Nor does it look likely that the reappearance of the boys in their mother’s life will be permanent.

If Marvel wants to fully unlock Wanda’s potential as an MCU character, then they would have to adopt more of her solo comics stories. Making her debut in the comics in the ’60s as a member of the X-Men, WandaVision took inspiration from Wanda comics like House of M (2005), however, there are still some massive storylines left to be explored for the Marvel character.

Classics like Avengers: The Children’s Crusades, where Wanda is eventually saved from the villainous Doctor Doom by her own sons, would not only look great on the big screen but would also be very effective in making some progress to Wanda’s story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This would also show off Wanda’s full potential as shown in the comic books.

After Disney’s acquisition of Fox, the X-Men have been long-rumored to make their debut in the MCU, and now a Scarlet Witch movie will not fully unlock her characters’ potential but may also lend a helping hand to go ahead with the overall narrative of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the comics, Wanda is seen as the daughter of X-Men villain Magneto. Her comic book character is as much a part of the X-Men saga as her MCU counterpart is a part of Although MCU has pretty much-made changes to her origin story, and mutants don’t have a presence in the MCU until now, Scarlet Witch is still one of the few characters in the MCU that have the reality-warping type of storylines that might eventually set up an X-Men debut for the MCU.
