Liam Hemsworth is widely known for his role as Gale Hawthorne in the dystopian film franchise The Hunger Games which is based on a novel series of the same name. Over the years, he has starred in many commercially and critically successful movies such as Paranoia, Independence Day: Resurgence, and Killerman.

In October 2022, it was announced that Liam Hemsworth will be replacing Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in the fourth season of Netflix’s fantasy drama series The Witcher which is adapted from the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski.

There is no doubt that Liam Hemsworth is a great actor; after all, Marvel wouldn’t have considered him for the role of the superhero Thor if he wasn’t good. The role eventually went to his brother Chris Hemsworth but that did not hinder Liam Hemsworth’s rise as a star in Hollywood.

Liam Hemsworth getting starred as Henry Cavill’s replacement for the character of Geralt brings in a lot of pressure on Hemsworth as it can make or break his portrayal of Geralt completely. Since the series is based on the huge amount of source material available, thanks to author Andrzej Sapkowski, it will take time for the Isn’t It Romantic actor to prove himself as the right replacement for Cavill.

Most of Geralt’s significant and exciting moments are in the last book of the series, Lady of the Lake. The book series has six main books and fifteen short stories, so Netflix has a lot to work with. Now, since Geralt’s character has got a new face, fans are skeptical which poses a great challenge for Hemsworth, who joins the series in the fourth season, will have to endure lots of slow-paced story-telling before he gets the chance to prove that he deserved the role after Henry Cavill dropped out.

Netflix Has a Reason for Choosing Liam Hemsworth

Henry Cavill bid farewell to The Witcher following the completion of the third season owing to creative disputes between himself and the writers of the series. He was supposed to reprise his role as the superhero Superman in James Gunn’s DC universe but unfortunately, that plan fell through.

Enter Liam Hemsworth who will be taking over Cavill’s role as Geralt of Rivia starting from the fourth season. Now, it’s no coincidence that Hemsworth was chosen for the character. He was specifically chosen due to his acting style that is more emotional than Cavill’s. It is to be noted that this change will also highlight Geralt’s transformation as a person since he is more matured than he was in the last season.

Sadly, the show’s future remains uncertain as the reception of the fourth season will be the ruling factor for Netflix to move forward with new seasons. With Netflix’s obsession with canceling shows out of nowhere in favor of launching new ones, The Witcher’s might have the same fate as the previously canceled shows if it fails to gain traction.
