Lily Gladstone Has Had a Crush on Leonardo DiCaprio Since 6th Grade Due to 1 Movie: “I would kind of project my crushes into…”
Leonardo DiCaprio has been the hero of girls’ dreams ever since he stepped foot in the industry. His soft, appealing charm draws people in and holds their attention while he showcases his wide-ranging talents. Celebrities and common masses alike, DiCaprio never fails to impress people and make them his fans forever. One such die-hard fan got the chance to work with DiCaprio in his latest Hollywood venture.
Lily Gladstone’s Crush on Leonardo DiCaprio
For young Lily Gladstone, it all started when she first watched the global superhit Titanic. Spending all her allowance to get a copy of the movie on VHS, Gladstone wanted to see what the fuss was all about. Technically, she expresses that her crush was not on the actor Leonardo DiCaprio but on the handsome character he played, Jack Dawson. In an interview with People, she clarifies,
“I loved that movie for the film and for Kate Winslet. Leo was great in it because Jack Dawson was great. And it’s funny, whenever I had crushes in sixth grade — because the year that it came out for me — I would kind of project my crushes into Jack Dawson. It was never on Jack Dawson. I had been a fan of Leo long before that. My first film that I watched him in was, I can’t remember which one came first, but it was either What’s Eating Gilbert Grape or This Boy’s Life. I loved Romeo + Juliet.”
In fact, one of DiCaprio’s movies made Gladstone resolve to enter the world of acting and try her luck in Hollywood. Growing up in Montana, she did not have easy access to the industry and everything it offered. When she watched the 1998 movie The Man in the Iron Mask, she was inspired by the versatility and exceptional range portrayed by DiCaprio in a double role. “I already knew at that point I wanted to be an actor and getting to see one actor play that kind of duality, it was really cool,” she added.
Working With Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese
Twenty-five years after being smitten with Jack Dawson, Gladstone landed a role in the maestro filmmaker Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. Getting to work with industry veterans such as Robert DeNiro and DiCaprio must have been an exhilarating experience for the actress. Her performance as the naive wife of a killer in the flick has garnered Oscar buzz already with people hoping for her to secure the Best Actress award.
“I was just watching the scene, and then I get a text on my phone from some unmarked number saying, ‘Hey, this is Leo. Do you want to come over for dinner?’ I look at it and I’m just like, ‘Is this really him?’”
In 2021, Gladstone reminisces on meeting DiCaprio for the first time. She received a text from The Departed actor to come over for dinner. As they talked through the evening, the actors familiarised themselves with each other and found a rhythm to match their characters’ chemistry. Killers of the Flower Moon is now available to stream on demand.
