Disney has been one of the biggest media conglomerates in Hollywood for decades now. It started as an animation company and within the next three decades, it expanded into live-action films, television, and theme parks. Over the years, the company also began acquiring other companies like Marvel and 20th Century Fox.

Disney has never hesitated to adopt any available new technology that can enhance the quality of the work it produces for its audience. Now is no different as the company is reportedly planning to announce its AI initiative soon.

This hardly comes as a surprise as many others including legendary director James Cameron have already joined forces with the technology. However, the consequences of such decisions could turn out to pose huge threats to the creative community which has already let their dismay about such changes known.

In recent years, the usage of AI has seen a huge surge as the technology is getting stronger and faster in imitating human art, and it is putting a lot at risk. It can not only be used for the generation of media that looks and sounds exactly like some of the biggest celebrities but also imitate the styles of great artists and writers.

AI is overall a huge threat to the creative community which includes writers, singers, actors, video editors, illustrators, and many others. Celebs like Ed Sheeran, Selena Gomez, Tom Hanks, and Keanu Reeves have openly addressed their concerns about AI. Not so long ago, explicit deepfakes of Taylor Swift were also circulating on the internet.

Amidst all of this, The Wrap has recently reported that The Walt Disney Company is gearing up to announce a huge AI initiative that will help in the transformation of the media it produces. This will allegedly involve “hundreds” of people and will mostly play a huge role in post-production and visual effects.

Besides this, its parks and adventures will also see AI usage but have no direct impact on customers. People are not very happy with this news. Here is what some of them had to say:

Fans are understandably upset with this news because if companies like Disney and Lionsgate choose to use AI, there is a huge chance that thousands of people will lose their jobs. Not to mention the media we will consume will lose human touch.

Reports of Disney’s AI Initiative Followed After James Cameron Joined the Board of Directors of an AI Company

James Cameron is one of the most technologically advanced directors in the industry. He began showing the harmful side of artificial intelligence through his Terminator movies much before anyone could have ever imagined such a thing happening. His high-grossing Avatar movies see extensive use of CGI.

For someone so aware of the pros and cons of the technology, James Cameron took everyone by surprise when it was announced that he had joined the board of directors of the AI company, StabilityAI. The news was reported by BBC last month.

Last year, during the dual SAG-AFTRA strikes, many writers and artists protested against the use of AI in producing media, but that does not seem to have worked. If companies and individuals as influential as Cameron and Disney continue to embrace AI, the chances of an AI invasion of this planet are more likely than an alien invasion.
