“Looking in the mirror and hating what you see”: Daredevil Reboot Revives 1 Iconic Frenemy Duo after Netflix Series Left Their Story Incomplete
- 'Daredevil: Born Again' will see the return of Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Jon Bernthal as the Punisher.
- Jon Brenthal mentions that the series will explore the conflicting approaches and shared admiration of both characters.
- 'Daredevil: Born Again' will be a soft reboot, and Disney’s D23 Expo teased dramatic confrontations in the show.
Daredevil: Born Again is finally getting ready, and it is about to reunite two of the most mysterious figures in the Marvel universe. Charlie Cox will be back as the Man Without Fear, and Jon Bernthal will be back as the Punisher.
Last time, the fans had a glimpse of their performances of a complicated relationship in the Netflix Marvel series, and thereafter all the shows got axed. Now, Born Again might deliver what fans have been waiting for this long.
Evolution of Daredevil and Punisher
Punisher and Daredevil first met in season two of Netflix’s Daredevil. Their fight was between two people with two very different approaches to justice, which made their relationship so complex and interesting to fans.
The Netflix series explored their individual stories. Murdock had an internal conflict of being a lawyer by day but a vigilante at night. On the other side, Castle was someone who was full of grief and anger, which led him to eliminate criminals fatally.
Both characters came face-to-face in Daredevil Season 2 and had some intense interactions, especially when Castle chained Murdock to a chimney and forced him to choose between killing a criminal or letting go. Later, both worked together to take down the Blacksmith as well.
But the shows later got canceled, and viewers wondered whether both would ever find common ground. Now, viewers might finally get some answers to their previous questions in Daredevil: Born Again. Talking about their relationship, Jon Bernthal told Rotten Tomatoes,
It’s complicated between them. It always has been. I think there’s a lot they admire about each other, and there’s a lot that’s like looking in the mirror and hating what you see, too.
Charlie Cox also agreed to Bernthal’s words and mentioned that their relationship is one of the most fascinating in the contemporary superhero world. Born Again will bring the characters to the wider MCU and will potentially continue the events of the Netflix series from where it was left off.
What to Expect From Daredevil: Born Again
Daredevil: Born Again will not only be a continuation of the Netflix series but also the sort of soft reboot for the MCU, with some known characters and some new faces. The first look for the show was presented at Disney’s D23 expo, and the footage was quite promising.
The trailer has not been released online yet. But as per Deadline, it was pointing towards the forthcoming events. One of the dramatic scenes shown at the D23 Expo was the meeting of Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin. “If you step out of line, I’m going to be there,” Murdock says to Fisk.
The Punisher is also seen in the trailer, where it looks like he is confronting Daredevil until he realizes he is his ally. That moment might play an important role in bringing back their complex relationship from the past.
Besides this, Marvel has already confirmed a second season even before the first episode has aired. It is a bold move, but it also shows how much faith Marvel has in this reboot.
Daredevil: Born Again will premiere on Disney+ in March 2025.
