Love Island is a reality dating show created by ITV Studios which originated in the U.K., in 2005 as Celebrity Love Island. The success of it led to a British version in 2015 with several international versions following. The show features a group of single people sourced from agencies who live on the island and are called islanders.

These islanders who live in an isolated villa away from the outside world work to find their love. Throughout their time on the villa, live television cameras as well as microphones monitor them. The islanders have to couple up to avoid getting dumped from the villa. The public votes for their favorite islander as well as the couple towards the end of the show. Love Island: All Stars returned on Monday with a disappointing start. Let’s find out more.

Love Island: All Stars premiere episode records a disappointing viewership

Love Island: All Stars is a spin-off show of Love Island and features former islanders returning to the villa to give love another shot. The show; produced by Lifted Entertainment which is a part of ITV Studios and GroupM Motion Entertainment, is filmed in South Africa.

The show premiered on ITV’s main channel but failed to garner the viewership as expected. Only about 1M tuned in on ITV1 to watch the premiere episode of Love Island: All Stars including an additional 500,000 tuned on ITV2. According to Deadline, less than 12% of overall viewers tuned in to watch the spin-off show.

Former islanders including Liberty Poole, Georgia Steel, Chris Taylor, Demi Jones, Georgia Harrison, and more returned to have another shot at finding love. Maya Jama returns as the host for the season and revealed to the islanders an interesting twist:

Exes Jake Cornish and Liberty Poole were coupled up by the public

“The decision of who you couple up with is not down to any of you…it is down to the public. They have already voted for who will couple with who.”

The first couple chosen by the public were Chris Taylor and Demi Jones followed by Luis Morrison and Georgia Harrison, Toby Aromolaran, and Georgia Steel. Anton Danyluk with Hannah Elizabeth and exes Jake Cornish and Liberty Poole were coupled up together. Lastly, Mitchel Taylor and Kaz Kamwi were announced as the couple voted by the public.

Love Island: All Stars’ disappointing premiere episode ends on a cliffhanger

As the episode started, Hannah Elizabeth and Liberty Poole were the first ones to enter the villa which disappointed the audience. The reason was because Liberty had been friends with Kaz Kamwi since they appeared on Love Island 2021 and the viewers expected the two best friends to enter the villa together.

Users went on to say that they were robbed of the two best friends taking on the villa moment. However, the disappointing episode did give the viewers some tea as Callum Jones entered the villa as the bombshell and none other than his ex-partner Molly Smith was the other bombshell that entered the villa. The reunion of two exes surely did give some awkward yet interesting moments to the audience watching the premiere episode.

The show will continue to premiere on ITV2 and ITVX every night at 9 PM with Iain Stirling returning as the narrator of the show.
