“Many of us went off and did…”: Gary Oldman Reveals One Way in Which His Show ‘Slow Horses’ Surpasses Harry Potter and Even Christopher Nolan’s Batman Franchise
- Gary Oldman prefers the steady routine of 'Slow Horses' over blockbuster films.
- He found working on 'Harry Potter' and 'Batman' involved irregular schedules.
- The Hollywood star appreciated the consistent filming schedule of 'Slow Horses.'
Gary Oldman, known for his incredible ability to change roles, has shared an interesting fact about his career. He prefers the steady routine of his TV show Slow Horses over the hit-or-miss schedule of working on huge franchises like Harry Potter and Batman.
In a recent chat, Oldman joked that playing the same character in multiple movies can be all over the place. However, working on a TV show like Slow Horses provides a nice, stable gig.
The 66-year-old enjoyed playing Sirius Black and Commissioner Gordon, but now he’s finding TV shows more rewarding because they allow him to stay with one character longer and see them change and grow.
Gary Oldman Revealed What Sets Slow Horses Apart from Big Franchises
One big difference between Slow Horses and Gary Oldman‘s previous blockbuster roles is how steady the production is. While there were long breaks between Harry Potter and Batman films, which could mess up the flow, Slow Horses keeps a consistent schedule. The English actor said in an interview with Jake’s Takes:
Well, I think with this one we wanted to make sure like we have just finished filming season 5, four comes out I mean late September or October whenever comes out you won’t have to wait for it very long for number five.
He continued:
With Potter, there were longer longer periods of time, I mean many of us want off and did many other things and then we would revisit and come back and again. With Batman 1, Batman 2 followed somewhat hard upon each other and then there was a big big gap. Life goes on, you do other things, you forget about it.
Oldman added that the Slow Horses set feels like a close-knit family. The same crew and cast come back each season, making it easy for characters and stories to grow naturally. He thinks this steady setup makes the show feel real. Though movies have their benefits, Oldman clearly likes TV more.
The star enjoys how TV allows him to explore characters deeply, tell complex stories, and connect with fans over time. Slow Horses has given Oldman a great role and helped him reach new fans. The show has been praised by critics and gained a loyal audience, showing that TV can be as powerful, or even more so, than movies.
Slow Horses Gets Emmy Nods and Gears Up for More Seasons
According to Deadline, they’re almost done filming the fifth season in London, and there are hints of a sixth season later this year. Plans for seasons seven and eight are also in the works. Oldman, who plays the quirky spy ,Jackson Lamb, was nominated for Lead Actor In A Drama for the third season. He’s excited about the show’s success and enjoys hearing from fans wanting more episodes.
Slow Horses is based on Mick Herron’s books and follows a group of secret service agents who work in a run-down office called Slough House. Even though Lamb seems tough on the outside, he’s deeply loyal to his team.
