Margot Robbie On Not Being A Barbie Kind Of A Girl
Margot Robbie played the Barbie doll in Greta Gerwig’s much-esteemed project but she is not the actual Barbie girl. During an interview with the entertainment outlet People, the 33-year-old actor mentioned that Barbie wasn’t her go-to-doll. On being asked whether she loved playing with a Barbie while growing up in Queensland, the actor recalled-
“I didn’t personally have any that I can recall. My sister did and I remember my cousin did. I would play with my cousins, but I wasn’t actually that much of a Barbie girl as a kid. I was more of a roll-around-in-the-mud kind of gal. I think they were all so janky because they were not well cared for. They were all weird Barbies.”
While talking about her experience reading the script and what made her go for the role, she said-
“I’ll never forget, after talking to [writer-director] Greta Gerwig for years I sat down and read the script, There was a joke on page one and I was like ‘They’re never going to let us make this movie. But they did!”
Margot Robbie even pointed out that the entire conceptualization of the plot was the biggest draw for her, She said-
“The idea that I am enough. Barbie can be anything and everything, but even if you’re just making it through life, you’re crushing it. I found that very therapeutic.”
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is way ahead of Christopher Nolan’s much-hyped project Oppenheimer. Barbie created history by becoming the first female lead movie to get the biggest opening and is gradually moving towards the $1 billion mark.
Barbie is currently running in the theatres.
