Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling starred in one of the most talked about and highly successful movies of 2023; Barbie. Directed by ace filmmaker Greta Gerwig from a screenplay she wrote with Noah Baumbach, Barbie is based on fashion dolls by Mattel. Barbie is the first live-action movie of the fashion doll after various animated versions of it.

Barbie clashed at the box office with another highly awaited and talked about movie; Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy. Gerwig’s movie became the 14th highest-grossing movie of all time and Robbie and Gosling were highly lauded for their performances as Barbie and Ken respectively. Gosling recently revealed his cinematic crush, which had Robbie laughing. Let’s find out who that is.

Ryan Gosling’s description of his cinematic crush had Margot Robbie laughing

The two talented and good-looking actors Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling starred in Barbie as the titular character and Ken. The audience and critics for their brilliant performance on-screen appreciated them. In a recent Screen Test interview with W’s Lynn Hirschberg that Canadian actor was asked about his cinematic crush. He said,

“I saw Raquel Welch on The Muppet Show when I was young. She was dressed like a cave woman and she was dancing with a big puppet spider and I liked it. I liked it more than anything I’d ever liked.”

Margot Robbie on listening to Gosling’s answer started to laugh and the actor said that he feels like he always overshares. Robbie cut him off and said that he continued to surprise her. She also revealed her cinematic crush; Aargon from Lord of the Rings; Viggo Mortensen from Lord of the Rings.

Back in 2017, Gosling during an interview with Company, shared via US Magazine.

“One day, I saw Raquel Welch on The Muppet Show. She was daning with this big furry spider and I immediately fell in love. She was the first crush I ever had, and I thought, ‘How do I get to meet this woman?’ And then I thought, ‘Well, she’s on TV, so to meet her I have to get on TV myself.”

Gosling revealed that he was a lonely child while growing up and he didn’t do well in his studies so TV was his only friend.

Margot Robbie appreciates Ryan Gosling for ‘adding’ a lot of him to Ken

During the conversation where Gosling admitted that playing Ken was the hardest role for him because he didn’t have any source material. Robbie on the other hand appreciated the actor for adding so much of him into playing Ken. She said,

“Ryan always had these tricks up his sleeve, all these bits he was going to do. He’d catch me off guard with them. The double sunglasses thing was his idea. That was just on a random take, and made the cut of the movie.”

Gosling returned the compliment to Robbie as he explained why he loved working with the actress on Barbie. He added,

“The boat, when Barbie and Ken travel to the real world. I brought a prop seagull to set. I asked somebody to puppeteer it in the shot and I didn’t tell Margot. 99% of the actor I’ve worked with would go very sarcastically, ‘You brought a seagull. Great.’ But Margot was open to the seagull puppetry.”

The film’s success and popularity have made the actors frontrunners for the Academy Awards. Who knows the audience might just get to hear I’m Just a Ken on stage.
