Margot Robbie Left Shocked After Warner Bros. Made Her Wear Short Clothes Only to Change Them Later
Margot Robbie is one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood right now. She has played some of the most iconic characters to date. From the beautiful blonde wife Naomi Lapaglia of Jordan Belfort in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street to Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s movie of the same name, Robbie has played numerous great characters over the years.
Margot Robbie played the role of the DC supervillain Harley Quinn in three movies between 2016 and 2021. She once revealed that she had no idea that the length of her shorts in 2016’s Suicide Squad was altered according to what was deemed acceptable by the U.S. audience.
Margot Robbie Was Shocked to Find Out About the Altered Length of Her Shorts
In 2016, Robbie was cast as Harley Quinn in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, becoming the first actor to have portrayed the character on screen. Regardless to say that her performance as the supervillain is going to be unbeatable for years to come.
Suicide Squad‘s trailer has two different versions: one that was released during the San Diego Comic-Con and another that was released internationally. Now, one might wonder why the two trailers would be different if they were of the same movie. The answer to that would be the size of Harley Quinn’s shorts which are shorter in the trailer that was released during the Comic-Con.
According to Mashable, when Robbie was asked by Nova if she had known about it, the actress did not seem to know about the change. She said:
“Really? I didn’t know about that. Having been there on the day, they were very small. But wow, I wonder if they did do that. That’d be extensive Photoshopping to do.”
The fact that some critics took offense to the overly sexist portrayal of the supervillain and her abusive relationship with the Joker was a much bigger concern at the time than the fact that Robbie’s posterior was covered up for the international trailer.
Margot Robbie Loved Playing Harley Quinn
After making her Hollywood debut as a stewardess in the 2011 period drama Pan Am which was canceled after a single season and almost annihilated her career, Margot Robbie was unstoppable as she kept auditioning for other roles. Luckily, she landed her role in The Wolf of Wall Street which served as the big break that she needed.

Despite having never read the DC comics, Margot Robbie was so dedicated to playing Harley Quinn that she learned gymnastics, boxing, and aerial silk so that she could do justice to the villainess. In an interview with British Vogue, she revealed why she kept going back to the character despite how demanding it was. She said:
“Those scenes, where everything’s exploding around you, and you make it just in time, those massive epic war hero runs? Those movie moments? Girls never get those. Girls never get those.”
The fact that Robbie gained creative control over the character helped her drive the supervillainess in a more progressive direction than where it was headed earlier.
