Birds of Prey is very close to release. The all female team up movie will mark the second time Margot Robbie has brought the titular Harley Quinn to life. After the blunder of 2016’s Suicide Squad, this movie will be a much needed relief for all the hard core Harley fans. Birds of Prey will also be a relief for all the people who don’t like Joker and Harley’s relationship. It’s been confirmed that Jared Leto’s Joker wasn’t in the movie simple because Margot Robbie wanted to do something different. But what Margot Robbie really wants to do, is bring Poison Ivy into the DCEU.

But how can we talk about Harley without mentioning Joker, no matter your feelings on the madman he is an pivotal part of Harley’s life.

Margot Robbie has said before that she doesn’t particularly like Joker and Harley’s relationship. She thinks that it’s abusive (and she is right). Harley deserves better. Harley deserves Pamela Isley or as she is better known- Poison Ivy. Harley and Ivy have been friends and sometimes way more in the comics. They have been a favorite pair since they became best pals in Batman: The Animated Series. Fans are always eagerly waiting to see them together in any media. While they do appear in comics pretty frequently but when it comes to animated or live action media, that’s isn’t the case.

In Birds of Prey Robbie’s Harley Quinn stars with Huntress, Black Canary and Rene Montoya. But there’s no Poison Ivy.  Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be any plans to explore the relationship between Dr. Harleen Quinzel and Dr. Pamela Isley in the DCEU as well. But Robbie for one wants to see it. When asked by CBR at the Birds of Prey premiere, which DC character she wants to meet next, Robbie made it clear that she wants to get Harley and Ivy together on the big screen. She said:

“I’ve been pushing a Poison Ivy reunion for a long time…Because obviously Ivy and Harley have such an incredible relationship, so I would love to explore that.”

It’s undeniable that Robbie has a lot of sway over Harley’s development in the DCEU. Not only was Birds of Prey her idea but she is actually also a producer on the movie. If Birds of Prey does well at the box office then we can get Gotham City Sirens movie with Harley, Catwoman and Ivy. But for now it seems that the movie is stuck in development hell. So there’s no Ivy for now. As for Suicide Squad 2, Robbie will be resuming her role as Harley Quinn but there’s no word if Poison Ivy will be a part of the movie or not. But there’s still some hope in the form of Matt Reeves’s The Batman. If Reeves’s uses her in the movie then there’s a chance that she will be able to meet Harley. But there are snags there as well since Harley and Ivy will then occupy different corners of the DC Universe and WB doesn’t want to do a shared universe just now. Honestly, it’s a game of wait and watch regarding Poison Ivy right now.

Birds of Prey hits theaters on February 7th.
