Mark Hamill Felt Avatar: The Last Airbender Won’t Last 4 Episodes For A Strange Reason
During the promotion of his movie The Machine in 2023, Mark Hamill appeared for the Web’s Most Searched Questions for WIRED. While answering the most searched questions about him, the Star Wars actor went on to talk about Avatar: The Last Airbender. He revealed that after reading the script of Avatar: The Last Airbender, he expected the animated series to get canceled as it was too brilliant to be made into a series. He said-
I remember reading the first script [of Avatar: The Last Airbender] thinking, ‘This thing’s gonna get canceled in four episodes because it’s too smart.’ And instead it ran many, many seasons. It was really gratifying to hear that parents liked to watch it with their children. Because it talked up to children rather than talking down to them. It was a very, very smart show.
Mark Hamill became the voice of Fire Lord Ozai throughout the three seasons of Avatar: The Last Airbender. In the live-action adaptation of the popular animated series, American actor Daniel Dae Kim plays the character of the Fire Lord. The first season of the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is currently streaming on Netflix.
Mark Hamill Believes That Star Wars Doesn’t Need Luke Skywalker Anymore
During an interview with CBS News in May 2023, Mark Hamill spoke about the future of Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise. According to the actor, his days as Luke Skywalker are over, and he believes that the sci-fi franchise no longer needs the hero. While talking about reprising the character of Luke, he said-
“Well, you never say never, but I just don’t see any reason to. Let me put it that way: I mean, they have so many stories to tell, that they don’t need Luke anymore. I had my time, and that’s good. But that’s enough.
Hamill mentioned that the franchise should go ahead with age-appropriate actors with respect to the roles. While talking to Esquire in May 2023, he said-
“People say, ‘Oh, now you’re going to be able to do a whole series of Luke post-‘Return of the Jedi.’ I said, ‘I don’t think so. First of all, they don’t need to tell those stories, but if they do, they could get an age-appropriate actor.”
Mark Hamill was the face of Luke Skywalker alongside Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher in George Lucas’ Star Wars trilogy. He has reprised the character of Luke Skywalker in the 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi in 2017. He even returned as a Force ghost in 2019’s The Rise Of Skywalker.
