Martin Scorsese Looks Forward To Cleansing Viewers Of Anti-Religion Sentiment With His New Short Film Jesus
Martin Scorsese’s upcoming short film Jesus is based on, A Life Of Jesus, a book by author Shūsaku Endō. During a recent interview with the reputed media outlet L.A. Times, the Shutter Island filmmaker spoke about his movie Jesus. He said-
“I’m trying to find a new way to make it more accessible and take away the negative onus of what has been associated with organized religion. Right now, ‘religion,’ you say that word, and everyone is up in arms because it’s failed in so many ways. But that doesn’t mean necessarily that the initial impulse was wrong.”
He further shared-
“Let’s get back. Let’s just think about it. You may reject it. But it might make a difference in how you live your life — even in rejecting it. Don’t dismiss it offhand. That’s all I’m talking about. And I’m saying that as a person who’s going to be 81 in a couple of days.”

Martin Scorsese On What Made Him Go Ahead With Lily Gladstone In Killers Of The Flower Moon
Lilly Gladstone created history with her performance in the epic drama Killers Of The Flower Moon. The 37-year-old American star was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Performance in a Motion Picture Drama for Killers Of The Flower Moon. During an interview with the British Film Institute in 2023, Martin Scorsese spoke about what led to casting Lily Gladstone as Mollie Burkhart. While talking about noticing her first in Certain Women, he said-
“Yeah, that’s what it was. Our casting director Ellen Lewis said, “I think I have a person for you.” But I said, “No, we’ve got to get all Osage.” But I saw a clip from Certain Women and I thought she was extraordinary. Then I saw the whole film. I liked the film. I like a lot of what Kelly Reichardt does.”

He further added-
” I loved First Cow [2019]. And so then I got to meet Lily. I think it was all on Zoom; and I saw her intelligence, her confidence and her strength… If she takes a position she holds it, whether it’s a character or off-camera, and she has reason for it.”
While talking about the character development of Mollie Burkhart, he explained-
“See, this is one of the things we learned from a lot of them, that they were kind of guileless… Things stick in my mind. They’re telling us, “One of our women marries a white man. He’s now a member of the family. Even if he does wrong, we’ll defend him.” Now that’s a paraphrase. But they’re very open and there was a trust to their nature, which was betrayed, which was taken advantage of. This is my feeling from what I picked up there, and how I made the movie, because I lived with this movie for years. I think they meant it.”
With an IMDb rating of 7.8 out of 10, Killers Of The Flower Moon is currently available on Amazon Prime Video for rent.
