Sir Ian McKellen, is undoubtedly the only person in the industry who is loved by everybody for over six decades now. He is one of the most respected and accomplished actors from his era, a true master of his craft. He has gifted several years of his life to his stage as well as his screen audience. The veteran actor is also an LGBTQ+ rights activist since coming out in 1988. He is also widely known and loved for his contributions to cult classics such as X-Men, The Lord of the Rings, and The Hobbit films.

The actor recently graced the Apple Music podcast Three Little Words, with his appearance and shared a heartfelt anecdote about which people can’t stop thinking about. His special story involving the word “love” won the admiration of millions on the internet, and showed yet again why he is treasured by millions.

Sir Ian McKellen and the word “love”

Well, Sir Ian McKellen and the word love is not far apart, his contributions to show business and his love for his craft are what make the admirers love him the most. But turns out he himself has a distinct realization about the world after a small incident took place with him. The actor has a very special relationship with the English, given it is his homeland. McKellen explained to the hosts John Bishop and Tony Pitts, why he feels most at home there. He said,

“If you ever arrive in Manchester,–And if you’re lucky enough to be able to afford a taxi, you get in the back of one and the taxi driver—usually a man, but not always—says ‘Where you going love?’”

He then held back tears before explaining any further and wailed,

“Oh, and I feel I’m home,”

The actor then explained why the word “love” is so special to him,

“Where grown men call strangers ‘love.’ I think if we all did that, it would be a rather better place, wouldn’t it?”

And indeed it would, millions on the internet echoed his sentiments and even shared their stories. The man single-handedly brought the whole internet together to agree on something, which is a very rare sight to witness.

The legendary actor who is an active part of the LGBTQ+ community himself also connected the word “love” with inclusivity. According to him, it is the best word to address anyone no matter what their identity is and still make them feel loved. He said,

“When people have got problems with gender, and pronouns, and so on,–Love covers everything really. Just call everyone love.”

He then continued,

“I mean ‘comrade’ would do, or ‘brother,’ or ‘son,’ or whatever,—Man,’ yeah, ‘mate.’ Yeah, these are all good words. But…But ‘love’…If that’s the start of our relationship, I don’t think we can go far wrong, can we?”

At this point when the camera pans toward the hosts Bishop and Pitts, they seem moved by McKellen’s anecdotes. And the views completely agreed with them in the comments section. This beautiful portion of the whole podcast was separately posted on TikTok and garnered a lot of love and appreciation from its viewers. This tiny clip was so powerful that it allowed people to feel accepted and included, creating a beautiful moment in itself.
