Joseph Quinn, known for his breakout role in Stranger Things, is set to portray Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch. The fiery hero has impressive fire powers. However, if Marvel decides to make the movie based on an intense particular story, it could the most substantial role of his career yet (after Eddie Munson).

The upcoming Fantastic Four movie isn’t just about fighting villains like any other superhero flick. In this, each member has their own battles. But for Johnny, his struggle could come from a memorable comic storyline from Fantastic Four #35.

In this issue, the evil Doctor Doom causes big trouble for Johnny by trapping him permanently in his flaming form. Now, Johnny is stuck like this and unable to change back to his human self. His friends, especially Reed Richards, are trying hard to find a way to fix this.

Meanwhile, Johnny tries everything he can think of to solve the problem quickly. He deep dives into the ocean, hoping the water might put out his flames, but it doesn’t work. Then, he flies out into space, thinking the lack of air might do it, but his flames still burn on.

Imagine the frustration! Johnny, known for his wisecracks and carefree attitude, is suddenly isolated. Simple pleasures like eating a burger or shaking a friend’s hand become dangerous. It’s a tough situation for Johnny, leaving him feeling completely helpless.

If Marvel adapts this storyline, this could be the meatiest filmy moment in Joseph Quinn‘s own career. While he’s already shown his acting talent in Stranger Things, this role demands even more. He’ll need to express a wide range of feelings—frustration, loneliness, and most importantly, a strong determination.

Marvel’s Fantastic Four is a Different Kind of Superhero Story

Fantastic Four has always been a different kind of superhero team. They’re a family who usually explore the ups and downs of their relationships in their stories. But this new storyline changes things up in a big way. Matt Shakman, the director of the upcoming Fantastic Four, said in an interview with Collider:

It’s different in so many ways. I wish I could be specific. I wish I could say more. But we are doing things very differently from a story standpoint, from an approach to the filmmaking standpoint, that really fits the material. I wish I could say more. I would love to, but I can’t. But I think it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen before, and certainly unlike anything at Marvel that you’ve seen before.

This is a refreshing look into the superhero movie, as described by none other than the director himself. The new Fantastic Four movie looks amazing. And Joseph Quinn’s role as Johnny Storm, who’s searching for his humanity, could be its emotional core.

Fantastic Four is set to release on July 25, 2025!
