Marvel’s ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Shares 1 Thing in Common With ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Making It the Perfect Antidote For Superhero Fatigue
- Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and Deadpool & Wolverine share this one thing.
- Show creator Jeff Trammell stated that there will be no intergalactic stuff in this series, much like Deadpool & Wolverine.
- A plethora of characters will be introduced in the series regardless of whether or not they are traditional Spider-Man characters.
Tom Holland might not be putting on his Spider-Man suit anytime soon, but Hudson Thames is all set to swing to everyone’s neighborhood screens with the upcoming Marvel animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Every now and then, fans are treated to a new piece of information about the show.
However, the studio decided to take mercy on the fans and show some clips from the series at D23. These clips have led to certain revelations regarding the characters in the show and numerous other things. Recently, creator Jeff Trammell also shed light on a fact regarding the series, which proves that it will have something in common with Marvel’s most recent blockbuster project Deadpool & Wolverine.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Will Have This One Thing in Common with Deadpool & Wolverine
It has been no secret that Marvel was struggling to impress the audience with any of its movies or series since the Infinity Saga came to an end. It needed a banger for a comeback. Luckily for them, the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-starrer Deadpool & Wolverine turned out to be the rennaisance that the company was in desperate need of.
One of the reasons why the movie did so well is the fact that despite its many cameos, it managed to keep the story limited to one universe, instead of having the characters jump from one universe to another every ten minutes. This gave the movie some leverage in comparison to The Marvels, which received mixed reviews from some viewers for its high-paced location switches.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man seems to be on its way to becoming the torch-bearer of this trend started by the Merc with the Mouth’s latest adventure. In an interview on The Official Marvel Podcast, the showrunner Jeff Trammell opened up regarding this. He told the host:
He’s hanging around New York; it’s not a huge intergalactic adventure. It’s him at his roots.
In Spider-Man: No Way Home, mentor Tony Stark had to urge the web-slinger to be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. However, that will not be the case for the hero’s mentor Norman Osborn since the web-slinger readily focuses on being that way.
This might finally end the fatigue the superhero genre has been suffering from since the multiversal and intergalactic elements were introduced. A more character-driven story like this will give fans a much-needed break from those elements.
Many Unconventional Spider-Man Characters Will Be Introduced in the Show
This is certainly not the first time that fans will get to see an animated series on Spider-Man. However, the upcoming show sounds like a refreshing take on the character and his story. Besides the revelations about the new twists in the traditional story, Trammell also disclosed that there will be many characters that are not necessarily related to Spider-Man.
While speaking on the podcast, the creator openly mentioned some of the characters that fans can expect to see in the series.
The big one is Nico Minoru of the Runaways. I’m a huge fan of that series and Nico. I’m very excited that she’s in our show. There’s Pearl Pangan, Lonnie Lincoln…there’s a few characters we’re familiar with from other series as well as Spider-Man classic characters we’re excited to mix it up with. I’ll also say, Amadaes Cho and Jeanne Foucault will appear in our series.
He mentioned that numerous characters in the comics will get a crossover moment in the series. Overall, it sounds like a fun new adventure for the young superhero as well as his fans. The release date has not been confirmed yet, but a late 2024 release seems to be on the books.
