“Mast*rbate, like it says in the script”: Why This Director Asked Aubrey Plaza to Mast*rbate on Camera?

American actress and comedian, Aubrey Plaza, who is best known for playing April Ludgate in Parks and Recreation, is adored for her incredible sense of humor and comic timing. 

However, the actress did experience some awkward moments also while filming certain scenes, which were not always comical. She once discussed such scenes in 2013, when Aubrey Plaza starred in the successful coming-of-age film, The To Do List.

The actress, who is now 38, spoke candidly about the uncomfortable situation on the set of The To Do List in an interview with Conan O’Brien from July 2013 that has recently come to light, as a result of her success with The White Lotus.

Plaza recently reached a career-high as one of the main stars of the wildly successful HBO series, The White Lotus’ second season. In the midst of all this, an old video of the actress discussing some awkward situations on The To Do List’s set is grabbing attention.

The worst part, though, is that prior to the scene being shot, Aubrey Plaza had no idea what it would involve.

When Aubrey Plaza ‌Appeared On Conan To Promote The To Do List

The To Do List, a raunchy rom-com starring Maggie Carey, was promoted by White Lotus star Aubrey Plaza on Conan back in 2013. During the interview, she admitted that the director had made her perform mast*rbatory acts for the camera. Now, her online remarks are gaining attention as they have reappeared.

Plaza played a high school student in The Do To List who has several casual relationships before going off to college. When the host, Conan O’Brien inquired about the movie’s mast*rbation scene, ‌the actress responded that the director, Maggie Carey, had asked her to act exactly as it was written.

The Ingrid Goes West actor said to O’Brien,

“I read it on the page and it said, ‘Brandy mast*rbates.’ “And in my head, I envisioned a nice scene where you just see my hand slowly go out of frame. That’s what I thought I was going into, but when I showed up, the camera was mounted on the ceiling.”

She Was Anxious About Filming The Scene

Aubrey Plaza insisted that she was somewhat surprised when Maggie Carey allegedly had written in the script to perform that scene in real since it would be customary on movie sets for actors to use modesty barriers or even prosthetics when simulating such intimate scenes.

“I thought I was doing one thing, and when I showed up, it was a whole different thing, it was a full body shot. And I asked the director, What should I do? And she said, ‘Mast*rbate, like it says in the script.'”

In an interview with Conan O’Brien at the time, she admitted that she was anxious about filming the scene.

In terms of her current career, Plaza recently attained a career-high, thanks to her role as one of the main stars of the second season of the wildly popular HBO series The White Lotus. 

The native of Wilmington, Delaware, is working on five new projects; one of which is a starring role in the upcoming Disney+ Marvel series, Agatha: Coven Of Chaos.

While her main character in the 2013 rom-com film, The To Do List, Brandy Klark, created a list of tasks to complete before starting college as a result of peer pressure to gain more s*xual experience.
