“I have nothing to say”: Matt Damon Offended Christopher Nolan After Director Asked Oscar Winner for His Inputs on Oppenheimer Script
American actor Matt Damon is known for his acting prowess as well as for being an excellent producer and screenwriter. The screenplay he wrote with Ben Affleck for Good Will Hunting in 1997 even won the duo an Academy Award each. This is a testament to his amazing talent; so naturally Christopher Nolan would consider Damon’s feedback on the script of his upcoming biographical film, Oppenheimer.
Recently, the cast of Oppenheimer, namely Peaky Blinders‘ fame Cillian Murphy and phenomenal actress Emily Blunt along with Matt Damon sat down for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, in which Damon talked about accidentally offending director Christopher Nolan.
Matt Damon Has Given the Industry Some of the Best Movies
Matt Damon rose to fame when he wrote the screenplay and starred in Good Will Hunting in 1997 alongside Ben Affleck. The movie got 9 nominations at the Academy Awards, including a nomination for Best Actor for The Rainmaker star. Affleck and Damon won the Oscar as well as Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay that year.
“By the end of the script, I was totally overwhelmed. And I kind of offended Chris because he came over and he said, “what’d you think?” And I just kinda blurted out, “I have no notes.” Which was, to me, the greatest thing you could say to another writer… Like “I have nothing to say, this is amazing.”But when Emily met with him like a week later, she was effusive in her praise and very articulate and he was like, “That’s better than what I got from Matt, I just got ‘he had no notes.’”

The Ocean’s actor didn’t realize that his remarks were unsatisfactory until later when Christopher Nolan met Emily Blunt. In Oppenheimer, Matt Damon will appear as Leslie Groves, the United States Army Corps of Engineers officer and a director of the Manhattan Project. This is the project in which J. Robert Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy, is working on the atomic bomb.
