Matt Damon and Minnie Driver had a short-lived romance. The two started dating after playing lovers in the 1997 movie Good Will Hunting. They broke up in 1998 but had a remarkable moment during the audition of their film.

Damon and Driver first collaborated on the Oscar-winning feature Good Will Hunting. The film, which starred Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who also wrote the script, won two Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor for Robin Williams and Best Original Screenplay for Damon and Affleck.

There was a moment in the film that transcended the limitations of acting. The 52-year-old actor and Driver auditioned together. Damon, who plays Will Hunting, was supposed to say to say “I don’t love you,” to the 53-year-old actress character, Skylar.

The Martian actor had to pause the audition, apologize, and restart due to the emotional weight of the moment. Driver’s producer, Lawrence Bender revealed,

“Matt wasn’t prepared for such a powerhouse acting against him. It was a scene where Will tells Skylar, ‘I don’t love you.’ Matt literally had to stop the audition, apologize, and start over. There were five guys in the room and nobody wanted to look at one another because we had tears in our eyes.”

Driver nailed the audition but, Matt Damon, couldn’t finish screening as he was unable to deliver the words to his ex-girlfriend.  Good Will Hunting was more than just a movie for Damon and Affleck; it was a labor of passion as the two won Oscars for their film.
