David Fincher is a renowned filmmaker who’s best at crafting perfect emotions and intensity in his projects. When he cast Ben Affleck in a movie, acclaimed actor Matt Damon was left traumatized.
While filming his cult postmodern mystery movie, Ben Affleck’s childhood pal and Hollywood’s lauded figure Matt Damon visited the sets of Gone Girl. This is when the Oppenheimer star was left traumatized after witnessing Davis Fincher’s precise attention to detail and perfection. The movie is also the filmmaker’s one of the highest grossing projects which earned Ben Affleck immense appreciation.
Ben Affleck’s Hit Movie Left Matt Damon Traumatized
Gone Girl is indisputably Ben Affleck‘s best movie ever in which he proved to be an incredibly talented actor. The film features him as the main lead who’s struggling to find his missing wife after his fifth wedding anniversary. During the filming, Matt Damon visited the sets of David Fincher‘s movie and was left traumatized.
Damon was shaken after witnessing how the director was paying attention to every detail in his project and what increased his trauma was Ben Affleck’s character for whom the Batman star was asked to delve into intensity and dark emotions. According to The Things, the Jason Bourne star said:
“It’s like a 90-second shot. Fincher’s got this big monitor in front of him where everything is exactly as it’s going to appear in the movie and he’s sitting there, I’m behind him and I’ve got headphones on so I can hear the scene.”
Damon shed light on how David Fincher’s way of directing results in longer shots which is undeniably an advantage as Gone Girl proved to be worth the attention. The Oppenheimer star’s trauma elevated after observing the troubled and frustrated role of Nick Dunne in the movie. Fincher had a valid reason for offering this intense role to Affleck due to his real-life experience that made him undergo public scrutiny quite often.
Ben Affleck Explains His Role in Gone Girl
While Matt Damon was highly traumatic witnessing David Fincher’s exceptional work and perfectionism in Gone Girl, Ben Affleck also shared what it was like to take on the role that earned him high acclaim. The project also stars actress Rosamund Pike who plays the wife of Affleck’s character. The Argo star said:
“He feels like he is unfulfilled and he is being asked to do more than he should, and he is frustrated and he resents his wife. She resents him. It was trying to get into that mindset of recrimination and resentment, which was dark and tough and ugly.”
David Fincher explained that he envisioned someone like Ben Affleck in his movie who has already experienced public scrutiny and can bring authenticity to the role and The Sum of All Fears star arguably came out to be the best actor for giving life to the man whom Fincher envisioned.
