Ben Affleck and Matt Damon‘s friendship has become the stuff of Hollywood legend now. Both of them met at Cambridge as kids and found common interest in acting and baseball. They would have never known how much this childhood friendship would impact their lives from then on.

On The Late Night Show with James Cordon, Affleck revealed a funny secret about his best friend. It turns out that behind that charming smile and Oscar-winning talent, Damon has a surprising flaw.

The duo’s journey to stardom was not easy. They struggled together, shared dreams, and even lived under the same roof, and Affleck revealed a flawed habit of Damon from the time when they used to share their room. He said,

Matt has never paid a bill to this day, that I know of. We’re like, ‘Why are the lights not working?’, and that’s because the utility company needs money to continue to fund our electricity.

Affleck went on to expose more of Damon’s household flaws, calling him a “bad housemate” and revealing his habit of blocking things out.

I would not suggest living with him, because he has an ability, have you ever known people that block things out? I think that’s why he’s such a great actor. He can just focus. One of the things he blocks out is the idea when you finish with something that it has to be washed or thrown away.

But their friendship goes beyond unpaid bills and messy apartments. They have supported each other’s professional journeys as well. In an interview with People, Affleck even admitted, “having Matt has meant the world,” getting emotional while talking about their bond.

Besides appreciating, they have roasted each other publicly. Damon even joked that Affleck’s Batman quite a few times to which Affleck replied (via ComicBook) that he was just “bitter” as all he got to play was Jason Bourne. This playful banter has become a hallmark of their relationship, which is loved by their fans as well.

While as roommates the two could hardly stand each other, as partners in crime Affleck and Damon have proved unbeatable. They burst into the scene with Good Will Hunting, in 1997 and won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. But after riding through success together, they made a surprising decision.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Affleck said that he and Damon decided not to work together after a while, as they thought people would always associate them with each other professionally.

At some point we got convinced of this idea, like, ‘Well, you don’t wanna work together all the time, you’ll become sort of associated with each other.’ And that’s negative. But ultimately, it was sort of like, ‘f— that. I don’t know, let’s work together.’ Cause that’s the beautiful, that’s the fun.

After this change of heart, they have appeared together in films like The Last Duel, Air, and now the upcoming movie RIP. They even founded Pearl Street Films together, which is another example of their professional bond.

As they look back on their careers, both Affleck and Damon have expressed regret at not working together more often. In the same Vanity Fair interview, Damon admitted that if he wanted to change something from their career, he would have chosen to work more often together.
