“Morale is at an all-time low”: T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach Get Rare Support From ABC Employees, Claim They Didn’t Violate Company Policy With Consensual Affair
Though the couple did not expect to face such public humiliation, at least T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach no longer have to hide their ongoing romance. You’ve probably heard by now that the Good Morning America show hosts were caught having an extramarital affair. Though the professional consequences have been difficult for both hosts, the news has spread like wildfire as the two face repercussions from their positions. There are reports that former colleagues are losing patience with Kim Godwin’s handling of this explosive situation.
Are Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes leaving GMA?
Holmes and Robach were photographed on a romantic stroll in Miami just a few days after it was revealed that Holmes had filed for divorce from Marilee Fiebig. The sight of these two having a great time together, however, did not make his soon-to-be ex-wife happy.
ABC News president Kim Godwin announced during an internal call on December 5, 2022, that the pair would no longer host their daily 1 p.m. show. Godwin told staff members on the call that the illicit affair had become an “internal and external distraction.” She further added,
“After thoughtful consideration, I am taking Amy and T.J. off the air while we figure this out.”
Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes’ relationship saga continues
Godwin further claims that even though Holmes and Robach’s alleged affair was not against company policy, the decision made by the members to remove them from their anchor roles was necessary for the GMA brand as a whole. One of the insiders told Page Six that the tabloid frenzy around their relationship has been going on for the past two months. The place is not a very good place to be, either. Additionally, they added,
“Morale is being affected, not so much talent. It’s the rank-and-file, the people who keep the lights on. Morale is at an all-time low.”
Several internal discussions at the network surrounding how to handle the scandal led to Stephanie Ramos and Gio Benitez taking over as hosts of GMA 3, while Holmes and Robach were removed from the program. An insider told the same tabloid that the reputation of Disney, the parent company of ABC, is in jeopardy. “The affair is one thing, but you also can’t be credible to break the news when you are the news—that’s part of the issue,” they said.
GMA talk show hosts continue to face backlash
Another source revealed that employees are still confused as to why Godwin let them continue on air without addressing the issue before yanking them and sending an email claiming the affair was not a “violation of company policy.”
According to reports, ABC may face a lawsuit if it fires or moves T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach from their anchor positions on the show. Furthermore, both co-anchors are working with their lawyers to re-establish their public reputations.
The position of Holmes and Robach is still under consideration at ABC. The GMA 3 anchor, who was married to Fiebig, is currently undergoing divorce proceedings. Meanwhile, both hosts are dealing with the fallout from their alleged affair, and the company has yet to conclude.
