Morbius: Without Marvel Films, Theaters Might Not ‘Have Existed,’ Says Jared Leto
Suicide Squad star Jared Leto, who played The Joker in the film, is now on his way to making his superhero debut as the titular character in the now much-delayed film, Morbius. While portraying a human-turned-vampire might look like quite a big stretch for the Oscar winner actor, Jared Leto has a stern belief that if these superhero types of films won’t exist, theaters would be really something of the past.
Despite having a forgettable experience in the superhero genre with Suicide Squad, the Oscar-winning actor has once again returned to the genre, but this time for Marvel Studios. Though the movie has been delayed for the umpteenth time now, Morbius is still highly anticipated as it is building Sony’s own Spider-Verse.
Jared Leto Opens Up About Superhero Films
“If it wasn’t for Marvel films, I don’t even know if theaters would exist,” Leto revealed to Variety in its latest story. “It doesn’t seem like there’s room for everyone, and that starts to become a little heartbreaking.”
Leto believes comic adaptations are “keeping cinema alive”
Jared Leto took it slightly further by declaring that he believes all comic adaptations are, in fact, “keeping cinema alive” as they manage to force people out of their houses and into the movie theaters, thanks to their massive fan following.
“I also have gratitude for these movies because they’re keeping cinema alive,” he added.
Leto also revealed that going to the theaters to watch a film as a kid was such an important part of him, eventually falling in love with the movies.
Jared Leto Suggests Oscars Should Have a “most popular movie” category!
“I know how important that was for me as a kid… escaping to the movies,” he stated. “That cultural experience was quite informative and impactful. I saw movies in theaters that changed my life.”
While Jared Leto is not the only one who believes that Marvel Studios films deserve way more credit for this than they usually get, that is due to much to the dismay of famed and acclaimed director Martin Scorsese. Acting legend and an MCU mainstay Samuel L. Jackson also believes that superhero movies do deserve more props. While appearing in an interview recently with The Times, the veteran actor stated that he believes the Oscars should actually go on and create a category of the “most popular movie” and give away the award to Spider-Man: No Way Home due to its absolutely massively ridiculous success at the box office.

“They should! It did what movies did forever — it got people to a big dark room,” he revealed. “All movies are valid. Some go to the cinema to be moved dearly. Some like superheroes. If somebody has more butts on seats it just means your audience is not as broad. There are people who have had successful careers but nobody can recite one line of their parts. I’m the guy who says shit that’s on a T-shirt.”
Jared Leto will miss all set to make his superhero debut with Morbius, which finally hits the theaters on April 1.
