1. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Initially, it was decided that Sony will make four installments. However, after the failure of the second installment, Sony handed over the keys to Marvel. After which Tom Holland donned the suit of Spider-Man.
2. Superman Returns
This movie didn’t do well monetarily. Therefore, the plan of making a sequel was dropped.
3. Battleship
The makers had very high hopes for this movie. Therefore, they invested millions. However, the ship sank deep as the movie didn’t do well. Neither the critics and the audience appreciated it.
4. Divergent: Allegiant
The first two Divergent movies earned enough at the box office to justify another sequel. However, this movie, which was the third installment was a disaster in all sense.
5. The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones
The movie was met with criticisms from the critics and audience alike. Moreover, it didn’t even earn half the production cost in domestic sales.
6. Jumper
This movie had a lot of potential for a sequel given its fresh young cast and storyline. However, the box office sale wasn’t good and it met with terrible reviews. Even after all this, a sequel was in talks, but it couldn’t clear the hurdle.
7. The Lone Ranger
The audience couldn’t take Johnny Depp as The Native American character Tonto in the film. Moreover, the film was marked as racially insensitive. It flopped terribly at the box office.
8. Fantastic Four
Fox tried to follow MCU’s footsteps and came up with this reboot. However, they couldn’t succeed well in it like MCU. The film flopped terribly. Moreover, the cast themselves denies the possibility of the sequel.
9. The Golden Compass
Children’s fantasy films do well if made nicely. The same was the hope for this movie. But, the film didn’t live up to the expectations of the audience. Therefore, two planned sequels were put on hold indefinitely.
10. John Carter
This movie was such a disappointment that its name is used as an adjective to describe a film that underperforms at the box office.
11. I Am Number Four
Alex Pettyfer was a heartthrob and it was expected his magic would work. But the box office result was terrible. However, it was said the sequel they planned was way awesome than this, but it didn’t give the makers enough confidence to move ahead after this film’s result.
12. Green Lantern
This movie was crushed by the critics. Moreover, it performed poorly at the box office. However, after 5 years, Ryan Reynolds nailed in his next project- Deadpool.
