Australian actor Hugh Jackman is one of the most talented actors of his generation. He has starred in movies of various genres with his breakthrough role being Logan aka Wolverine in the X-Men film franchise. For his portrayal of this iron-clad superhero, he won the Guinness World Record for having the longest career as a live-action Marvel character.

Actors have often revealed that they used to work odd jobs before landing their first acting gig. At times, they have also claimed that they continued doing these jobs along with their acting gigs to make ends meet. Hugh Jackman stands no exception to this as he used to be a clown on rent until he managed to get his big break.

Although Hugh Jackman being a clown in his early days might sound amusing, the job was certainly more challenging than one would assume it to be. In an interview with In The News, he shared his experiences from his time as a clown and revealed how not knowing any magic tricks appeased a kid once.

During his interview with In The News (via USA Today), Jackman said:

“I was Coco the Clown, and I had no magic tricks. And I remember a 6-year-old standing up at a party saying, ‘Mummy this clown is terrible, he doesn’t know any tricks’—and he was right.”

The Greatest Showman actor then went on to say that only toddlers found his tricks good. He used to attend birthday parties of kids under the age of 3 or 4. The only time he went to the birthday party of an 8-year-old kid, it did not too well if what he said was anything to go by.

Hugh Jackman did well at keeping his clients, kids under 3 years of age, entertained by juggling whatever he could get his hands on, for instance, swords. However, he could not continue the job for too long as working with older children proved to be tough for him.

During an interview on The Howard Stern Show, Jackman recounted his last day of working as a clown, saying:

“And it ended up with the kids having the eggs, throwing them at me. And that was working! They loved it. And piling and beating the sh*t out of me. Jumping on top of me. It was pathetic, but they were happy. I was looking at my watch, like ‘10 minutes to go.’ And that was it. Never went back again.”

It all started when he showed up at an 8-year-old kid’s party and since older kids are harder to entertain, the eggs that The Prestige actor used to juggle and then break in his hand did not amuse the kid. The whole thing came to a terrible end but thankfully, he became a renowned actor.
