Alec Baldwin will return to the sets of Rust
Back in October 2021, the shooting of Joel Souza’s Rust was halted because actor Alec Baldwin‘s prop gun fired a live round that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The director of the movie, Joel Souza, who also got injured, recently stated that the filming will resume very soon,
“Though bittersweet, I am grateful that a brilliant and dedicated new production team joining former cast and crew are committed to completing what Halyna and I started. My every effort on this film will be devoted to honoring Halyna’s legacy and making her proud. It is a privilege to see this through on her behalf.”
More than a year after the incident, the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who overlooked the weaponry on the set, and actor Alec Baldwin were charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter.
The actor’s legal team has been defending his side
The actor’s legal team claimed that he “had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun — or anywhere on the movie set” and the actor “relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds.” It was obviously not entirely the actor’s fault as he was just doing his job.
The actor and the family of the cinematographer also reached an undisclosed settlement. As per the agreement, Hutchins’ widower, Matthew Hutchins, will be the executive producer of the movie and will receive a portion of the profits.
The incident has shaken Alec Baldwin
Since the tragic incident, the actor has expressed remorse. The actor explained once in an Instagram post that he “may never be the same” and that his “heart has been broken a thousand times this past year.” He has claimed that even though he was the one who shot Hutchins, he was not responsible for her death and even insisted he did not pull the trigger. The actor’s attorney has also stated that the charge against his client was “a terrible miscarriage” of justice.
