“My therapist encouraged me to literally rename my family”: Mariah Carey Refused to Pay for Brother’s Treatment After Being Used as ‘ATM’ by Siblings, Reveals She Was Sold to a Pimp by Own Sister
Mariah Carey is an expert at hitting the delicate notes of the music but has apparently failed to hit the correct notes of the relationship with her siblings. And that is not her fault. She had to endure a lot of pain and trauma caused to her by her siblings. The “Songbird Supreme” has won multiple awards. Name an award, and she probably might have won it for her talent in singing and songwriting. She is one of the best-selling musical artists in history and holds multiple Guinness World Records.
But this picture-perfect career came with its own drawbacks and might be one of the reasons her family failed her.
Mariah Carey’s difficult relationship with her siblings
The queen of Christmas, the only person who is remembered every year by millions of families through her song All I Want For Christmas Is You refuses to remember her own family for the horrible things they did to her. Mariah Carey‘s childhood was not as great. The family had to constantly move in order to find some safety due to their multiracial background.
Being the youngest of three children, Mariah Carey wasn’t always put under pressure to earn. But she took it upon herself to change her fate. The three kids had an extremely difficult childhood and the family suffered financially. Thus, her being successful was a beacon of hope for the rest of the members. But her siblings treated her like a machine, constantly meeting their needs for them. Carey felt betrayed and used constantly. In her memoir The Meaning Of Mariah, she made a shocking revelation. She wrote,
“When I was 12 years old, my sister drugged me with valium, offered me a pinky nail full of cocaine, inflicted me with third-degree burns, and tried to sell me out to a pimp.”
Thus, ever since she was capable, she decide to maintain a distance from them, and understandably so. The amount of trauma this incident caused her is insurmountable.
Is Mariah Carey still in contact with her siblings?
She has cut them out of her life fully. Morgan Carey was always a sick child growing up as he suffered from cerebral palsy. In 2016 he came out and spoke ill of her own sister to The Sun for not paying his and his elder sister, Allison Morgan’s hospital bills from when they were sick. He also tried to get a hold of Mariah Carey a bunch of times but failed.
Very recently, in the year 2021, the sister-brother duo came out and filed a lawsuit against Mariah Carey for defamation. This was in response to her coming out with the horrible things her siblings did to her in her memoir. She wrote in her memoir,
“For my sanity and peace of mind, my therapist encouraged me to literally rename and reframe my family. My mother became Pat to me, Morgan my ex-brother, and Alison my ex-sister … I had to stop expecting them to one day miraculously become the mommy, big brother, and big sister I fantasized about.”
Thus for many years she has been successfully avoiding her brother and sister and wants nothing to do with them. Although she got unlucky in the family department, fans around the world support her and shower her with love constantly.
