Emily Blunt doesn’t want her daughters to pursue her career path
Emily Blunt is one of the A-listers of Hollywood and is renowned for her work in the industry. The actress has seen meteoric success throughout her career. Despite that, she doesn’t want her children to pursue her career path. Recently, during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, the actress blatantly talked about the dark side of the film industry.
Talking about her year-long experience in the industry, the 40-year-old actress emphasized that the industry is gender biased as men will always have certain privileges. Blunt explained that in the industry, women are judged based on their appearance as compared to men. The Jungle Cruise actress further added,
“My toes curl when people tell me, ‘My daughter wants to be an actress.’ I want to say, ‘don’t do it. Because it’s a hard industry and it can be very disappointing. A lot of people tell you not to take things personally — but it’s completely personal, especially when you’re being judged on how you look. So you just have to endure that side of things.”
The actress has raised her daughters in a very neutral environment, away from the spotlight. Even after being a megastar in Hollywood, there is no fuss about it in Blunt’s family. The actress revealed that her stardom doesn’t excite her kids, as she has completely disassociated her children from her stardom. She said,
“When I see myself up on a billboard, I have this complete dissociation with it… I’m like, who’s that? And I can see my children doing the same – they might say, oh, there’s Mama, but it’s not exciting for them. What’s exciting for them is when I can pick them up from school and take them swimming.”
Previously, The Devil Wears Prada star shared about the moment when her elder daughter got to know about her fame. She said,
“Hazel came home the other day, and we were in the kitchen, and she goes, ‘Are you famous?’” “We’ve never said that word in our house. Someone at school had clearly said it. I was like, ‘Um, not really, I don’t think I am. Did someone say that to you, Haze?’”
Emily Blunt shares two daughters, Hazel, 8, and Violet, 6, with husband John Krasinski. Blunt and Krasinski tied the knot in 2010.
Emily Blunt’s Opinion on Her Acting Career
Though Emily Blunt doesn’t want her kids to follow her career path, she believes that being ambitious in one career is very important. She said, “Ambition is healthy; it shouldn’t be seen as a negative thing. It’s about knowing your worth and what you bring to a project, and never apologizing for doing well.”
Blunt is set to appear in the upcoming film Oppenheimer, alongside Cillian Murphy. The film is based on the real-life of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer.
