Dating back to the August of 2020, Olivia Wilde was announced to be helming a mysterious Marvel Comics adaptation for Sony Pictures, diving directly into the blockbuster business despite having simply one film under her belt from behind the camera.

Olivia Wilde might be helming a Spider-Woman adaptation!

Obviously, it kind of helped that Booksmart almost won unanimous critical acclaim, even winding up with a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score despite the fact that it failed to perform with expectations at the worldwide box office. Wilde’s next effort Don’t Worry Darling is also slated for release in this coming September, so there are some strong chances that she will be diving into Sony’s Spider-Man Universe after that.

While not much of the official information has been revealed other than the fact that Wilde will be seen reuniting with Don’t Worry Darling and Booksmart writer Katie Silberman on the film, but she also teased what’s in store while recently appearing in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“I’m just honored to be amongst this wave of women who are showing up and saying ‘we are not only going to step in and try and tell this story like men do, we’re actually going to reframe the stories themselves. And the industry is, as far as I can tell, really supportive of that. There is a sea change and it’s because of these decades of trailblazers who demanded this over and over and over again and it’s finally broken through and I’m very fortunate to be there with it.”

It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but there are a lot of speculations under the assumption that Olivia Wilde will be revealed as the director of a Spider-Woman adaptation. The sequel to Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and No Way Home has already created enough goodwill towards Sony Pictures’ most recent stab at a superhero universe, something that MorbiusKraven the Hunter, and whatever Olivia Wilde is cooking up will be hoping to capitalize on.
