Natalie Portman Once Lost Her Oscar Award, When Asked She Said She’s Not Into ‘Worshipping Gold Idols’
An Oscar is certainly the most prestigious award an actor or any person in the film industry can ever hope to win in their life. It’s the ultimate honor if one were to consider awards, therefore it won’t be an exaggeration to suggest that people who’ve won it would literally worship the golden idol or at least treat it like one of their most prized possessions. Can you guess who’s an exception though? It’s Natalie Portman.
No “worshipping false idols” for Natalie Portman
During an old media interaction in 2015, Portman claimed to have accidentally misplaced the award and had no idea about its whereabouts. She talked about the pure gold Oscar award she had won for her performance in Black Swan. The actress quite calmly said that she had not seen it for quite a while, also indicating that there might be a chance that she has misplaced the prestigious award.
Natalie Portman had said:
“I don’t know where it is. I think it’s in the safe or something. I don’t know. I haven’t seen it in a while … I mean, Darren [Aronofsky] actually said to me something when we were in that whole thing that resonated so deeply. I was reading the story of Abraham to my child and talking about, like, not worshipping false idols. And this is literally like gold men. This is literally worshipping gold idols – if you worship it. That’s why it’s not displayed on the wall. It’s a false idol.”
There’s a high chance that this was nothing more than a joke, and she probably even found it later. But despite those assumptions, it’s clear that Natalie Portman is the kind of artist who believes in success from hard work rather than superficiality. The honor of winning the award for her talent and hard work is what matters for Portman rather than the symbolic gold effigy that has almost no value for her.
