Netflix Data Confirms What All Millennials Knew About The Dark Knight All Along
The latest report shared by Netflix reveals that The Dark Knight got the highest viewership among the three films in the The Dark Knight trilogy. Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008), and The Dark Knight Rises (2012) were directed by Christopher Nolan for DC Studios.
Netflix started sharing their viewership data under the ‘Top 10’ and ‘Most Popular’ categories. Now, they have launched a report, What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report, which will be shared twice a year. The report will include the viewership details of streaming TV shows and Movies people watched over six months.
The calculated data will include hourly views of each title, original and licensed, along with a watch time frame of over 50,000 hours. The premiere date for any Netflix TV series or film will be considered, also noting whether a title was available globally.
What Is The Viewership Count Of The Dark Knight In the Netflix Report?
According to Netflix reports, The Dark Knight has the highest viewership of 18,300,000 viewing hours, which is 14,000,000 more than The Dark Knight Rises, which has 4,300,000 viewing hours. The first installment of the trilogy, Batman Begins, had 4,500,000 hours of viewership, which is 200,000 more than the 2012 movie and 13,800,000 less than the second film made by Nolan.
The Dark Knight has been a highly successful film in all of Christopher Nolan’s three films he made for DC, winning over 107 awards with 178 nominations. While Batman Begins received around 75 nominations and won over 16 awards. The Dark Knight Rises bagged 27 awards with 81 nominations.
Other than that, the 2012 film collected $1.085 billion at the box office, with a net budget of $230 million. Unlikely, the 2008 film made a box office collection of $1.006 billion with a budget of $185 million.
Why Nolan’s The Dark Knight Is Highly Rated By The Audience?
The Dark Knight is always called the best Batman film, not only in Nolan’s trilogy, but the competition also includes the disappointing 1997 film Batman & Robin, directed by Joel Schumacher and written by Akiva Goldsman. The 2022 film The Batman was still better than the last film the Oppenheimer director made in 2012, but still couldn’t match the level.
The reasons can be quite simple, but the narrative arc of The Dark Knight Rises was unique in terms of how powerful the characters are. And in this film, ‘Joker,’ played by Heath Ledger was the most memorable and favorite villain in the entire Batman movies DC has ever created.
Other than that, the film perfectly balanced the plot and character-driven story along with politics, and societal moralities. On top of that, the filmmaker stayed rooted in the typical Batman tradition of car and bike chase scenes and well-choreographed action set pieces.
