Squid Game: The Challenge renewed for Season 2
British reality competition series Squid Game: The Challenge, consisting of ten episodes is based on the South Korean web series Squid Game starring Lee Jung-jae, as the lead character. The competition series featured 456 players competing for about $ 4.56 million. The reality show just like the original series pushes the players to their limits and forces them to question themselves on how far they can go to win the prize money.
Now it has been reported that Netflix has renewed the reality series for a second season and it was announced just before the season finale. Netflix VP of Nonfiction series, Brandon Rigg said,
“There was no red light in our decision to green light season two of Squid Game: The Challenge, the most ambitious unscripted show we’ve premiered at Netflix. We’re so excited to continue the franchise of Squid Game with our team in Korea and the producers at Studio Lambert and The Garden for this epic competition series.”
Upon its premiere, The Challenge debuted at the No. 1 spot in Netflix’s Top 10 English TV list. The final three players out of 465 that managed to reach the finale were Player 016 Sam, Player 287 Mai, and Player 451 Phill. Casting for season 2 is now open.
Players were ‘kicked off show’ for ‘hooking up’ on Squid Game: The Challenge
According to the Independent, Player 243 Stephen revealed that some of the players were asked to leave the show after they were caught breaking the rules of the show. In a recent TikTok video, Stephen disclosed that the players were individually quarantined in a hotel and continued,
“We were not allowed to interact or talk to each other. Some people got caught sneaking into each other’s room and hooking up so they got booted from the show.”
He also revealed that he along with his friend Player 456 Chase were also caught sneaking into each other’s room and were almost kicked off the show but then the team realized that they came here together anyway so they were good to go. Stephen revealed in his video that he is in touch with Player 232 Rick and they text almost every day.
In addition to The Challenge, Netflix according to THR is also expanding the franchise with Squid Game: The Trials which is described as a live fan experience, starting in Los Angeles at the Television City complex where the guests will be taken into the iconic Squid Game universe after they decide to participate in six fun immersive and competitive engagements just like the ones showcased on the show.
