Marvel Studios regained the rights to the X-Men characters after Disney acquired Fox in 2019, and thus the studio has been developing projects integrating the X-Men characters in the MCU. One such successful and highly appreciated movie is Deadpool & Wolverine, which introduced Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine into the MCU’s multiverse story.

There have been talks about Marvel Studios working on rebooting the X-Men film series within the MCU in the future. Fans have just been waiting for the two universes to merge for an epic movie. However, there were no confirmations or updates properly. But now, a representative from Marvel Studios has shared an exciting update.
Marvel Studios’ Brad Winderbaum shares an update for the X-Men reboot
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming Brad Winderbaum was asked about the future of X-Men in the MCU. He said,
Right now, we are still working on X-Men ’97 season 2. It’s coming together amazingly, and the scripts for season 3 are insane. That is certainly scratching the X-Men itch for me on television. And there is an X-Men feature in development right now, so that is the focus of X-Men currently.
A couple of days ago, industry insider The InSenider shared that after the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, the studios have realized their potential. He mentioned that the studios are working on an X Academy series focused on young mutants for TV screens.
In Marvel Comics, New X-Men: Academy X was focused on the young mutants who lived and learned how to control their powers at Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. Winderbaum, during his interview, was also asked about the project, to which he said that anybody can say anything online, which just makes the audience excited.
Marvel President Kevin Feige had expressed his happiness over having the beloved X-Men characters back. He said that the audience would see their franchise continue with X-Men players that one can easily recognize. He noted that right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really led them to the new world of mutants and X-Men. (via ScreenRant)
Fans react to finally having an X-Men reboot feature update
Despite Brad Winderbaum assuring the fans and audience that the upcoming feature is in development, there hasn’t been any more information shared regarding the project.
Fans decide to cast actors/actresses in their favorite character roles, like Hunter Schafer for Mystique, Sadie Sink for Jean Grey, Jack Champion for Cyclops, and more.
A user wrote online, ‘Finally—a proper X-Men movie is happening; about time they get it right.’ Another user noted, ‘X-Men ’97 was really good. I hope the movie is on par with quality.’ A third user mentioned, ‘Guess it’s time for Professor X to roll into the MCU literally.’
Marvel Producer Nate Moore spoke to EW, who addressed the delay in the X-Men reboot. He said that the studios did not rush into making an X-Men reboot straight away because there was a cooling-off period after Disney acquired the rights. He added,
Now that we can build the path towards X-Men, we want to start sprinkling in these things so that it does not feel like you’re going to drink from a fire hose when that movie comes so that the MCU starts to lay the groundwork for what could come.
Kevin Feige appeared at the APAC’s Disney Content Showcase in Singapore in November, assuring the fans that the work on the reboot feature has started.
Talking about X-Men ’97, created by Beau DeMayo, the animated series is a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series and has received critical acclaim. Some critics dubbed it Marvel’s best release in years and praised the animation, writing, and captivating action sequences.
