“No I’m not doing this chemical test”: Justin Timberlake Allegedly Did Not Make Things Easy For Himself After Police Confronted Him For Drunk Driving in New York
Music artist Justin Timberlake is very popularly recognized for his diverse artistry in terms of music, lyrics, showmanship, and vocal range. Often called the Prince of Pop, Timberlake is a former member of the 90s boy band *NSYNC and is considered to be one of the most influential artists in the world. Billboard named the singer the best-performing male solo artist in the history of the Mainstream Top 40.
Apart from music, Timberlake has been a part of successful movies including Friends with Benefits, The Social Network, Bad Teacher, and more. He received praise for his work as an actor in the movies. Timberlake recently released his sixth studio album, Everything I Thought It Was, and is currently on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which began in April in Vancouver and will conclude in Kansas City in December. The singer was recently involved in alleged DWI charges.
Justin Timberlake admits to having one martini following arrest on DWI charges
According to NBC News, the singer-songwriter-actor Justin Timberlake was pulled over from his gray BMW near Madison Street and Middle Line Highway at around 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday for driving through a stop sign and failing to stay on the right side of the road. The police officer noted that upon reaching his car and speaking to the artist, it was clear that he was in no shape to drive. Sag Harbor Village Police Officer Michael Arkinson made the following statement:
It was ascertained that the defendant was operating said vehicle in an intoxicated condition in that his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.
The officer also shared with the publication that Timberlake admitted to consuming one martini before he drove his car. They added that Timberlake refused to be tested for impairment, stating that he said,
No, I’m not doing a chemical test. I refuse. A refusal can be introduced at trial to establish consciousness of evidence of guilt. It is the basis for a revocation of driving privileges.
A mug shot of the singer was released by the Sag Harbor Police, which showcases his bloodshot eyes, glassy staring, and unmussed hair. However, the police officer confirmed that no one was hurt during the incident, and the singer, according to People, will be charged with one count of DWI and two citations—one for running a stop sign and one for failure to keep in lane. He was arraigned at around 9:30 a.m. at Sag Harbor Village Justice Court and is expected to appear virtually next on July 26th.
Sources claim Justin Timberlake has been struggling with his ‘drinking problem’ for years
A source shared with Page Six that Timberlake getting arrested for intoxication is not that surprising, as the singer has had challenges over the years due to his drinking. The source said,
It’s not a secret. Everyone knows. He has a real drinking problem—a lot of weed but mostly alcohol—and he’s been doing it and masking it for years. It’s a real thing, and when you have a drinking problem, it is apparent, yet they’ve pushed this tour on him, and he’s been in a very dark place.
The source mentioned in the publication that Timberlake’s alleged penchant for boozing got to him, and everyone around him has been an enabler. Another source added that before his DWI arrest, Timberlake had been clean, adapting to the new lifestyle where he’s been eating healthy food and eliminating alcohol from his diet to lose weight.
But old footage shows that the singer had been drinking heavily at the time when Framing Britney Spears was released in 2021, and he was once again dragged into the media. Timberlake consciously made an effort to make changes in his lifestyle to manage the backlash he received. The insider stated that the singer was worried about his career, and people around him were also worried as he was brought under the spotlight for how he treated Spears when they were together.
However, he’s been good now. Justin Timberlake has not yet commented on the situation and is scheduled to perform at Chicago’s United Center on June 21st before heading to perform at MSG on June 25, 2024.
