DC Studios simply can’t catch a break these days and even the arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran in roles of co-heads hasn’t done any wonders so far.

As far as theatrical releases of DC movies are concerned, Blue Beetle, which was released on 18th August, has underwhelmed at the box office with its domestic opening weekend collection of $25.4 million. It becomes the fourth straight DC disaster after Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash.

There are plenty of theories on why Blue Beetle failed to draw crowds to theaters. But for now, let’s focus on Ezra Miller’s The Flash which kicked off the summer season for DC in such a manner that even the much-liked Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña couldn’t salvage it with his Beetle superpowers.

Fans React to The Flash Following Its Digital Release

While Blue Beetle is considered James Gunn’s first DCU character, The Flash was tipped to reset the DCU and give DC Studios the perfect platform to introduce its new slate of movies.

The Andy Muschietti-directed movie was even called “F*cking amazing” by Gunn before its release. To be bluntly honest, it was anything but amazing and the worldwide box office collection of $268.5 million reflected the audience’s sentiments aptly.

The Ezra Miller starrer is now streaming on HBO Max, and reactions from social media users suggest Barry Allen’s super speed is failing to capture the imagination of viewers digitally as well.

“It’s one of the best superhero movies I’ve ever seen,” said DC Studios’ co-CEO early this year.

But reactions from fans after both the theatrical and digital releases suggest even Gunn might wish to use the super speed of Barry to go back in the past and alter his comments.

Fans Hated The Flash but Loved Ben Affleck’s Scene in the Movie

Talking about going back in time, there are 99 things The Flash’s director Muschietti could change in the movie, but one particular scene, to his credit, was an absolute masterpiece.

Ben Affleck has bowed out as Batman ahead of the new DCU era and his final scene in the black cape came in The Flash. Before bidding farewell, Affleck’s Bruce Wayne gave teenage Barry some advice.

Bruce Wayne tells Barry:

“There’s nothing broken with you that needs to be fixed. Take it from an old guy who’s made a lot of mistakes. Don’t live your past. Live your life. Don’t let your tragedy define you.”

Affleck was equally happy with his portrayal and later admitted that he nailed it in The Flash as he figured out his version of the person and tried to fit himself into a Batman. Finally!
