The more you look at it, the more questions you get. The more you think about it, the more confused you become. The Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer has left fans in a frenzy. There’s so much information to take in in a matter of minutes. It is taking a lot of time for the fans to decipher each and every scene in the No Way Home trailer. And one such mystery that has left the fan base scramming for answers is the other Goblin. From the looks of it, Harry Osborn will be a part of the movie in the form of the another Goblin apart from Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin.
But the question is – which Harry Osborn are we talking about? Will it be Dane DeHaan from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or James Franco from the Sam Raimi movies? Let’s take a look and find out based on our inferences.
No Way Home Trailer Gives Us Not One But Two Goblins
The first Goblin is Norman Osborn’s Green Goblin. He appears pretty early on in the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer. His pumpkin bombs, trademark Goblin glider and the Ram Raimi exclusive Green Goblin costume are pretty evident. Dafoe will most likely team up with the other No Way Home villains – Doctor Octopus, electro, Sandman, and the Lizard. Spider-Man is about to have his hands full. But there is a secret sixth villain the No Way Home trailer only gave us a short glimpse of. This other Goblin is in no way similar to the Green Goblin. This is most definitely Harry Osborn in his Goblin avatar.
This particular scene happens at roughly two minutes ten seconds into the trailer. It is a blink and you will miss it scene but many fans have already latched on to that particular sequence. A mysterious hooded figure, surrounded by what look like flying pumpkin bombs, flies past the camera against the backdrop of a full moon. The figure is riding what looks like a modified version of the Goblin Glider. The figure is not wearing a mask and the costume design is also very similar to that of the original Harry Osborn live-action version seen in previous Spider-Man movies.
James Franco’s Goblin?
There are a number of factors to consider before we jump towards the conclusion that it is James Franco. Franco takes up the mantle of the Goblin with new gear and devices. With a disfigured face, Harry Osborn becomes the new Goblin riding on a new, advanced form of the Goblin Glider called the Sky Stick. The pumpkin bombs stay the same though. The other Goblin seen in the No Way Home trailer is using the traditional Goblin Glider albeit with green lights instead of blue ones seen in the 2002 movie. The glider was also fixed wing instead of rotating blades used by Green Goblin in the Sam Raimi movies.
Is It Dane DeHaan From the Amazing Spider-Man 2?
Dane DeHaan became the new Green Goblin in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. His version of the Green Goblin had a very different Goblin Glider than what was seen in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. The glider that Dane DeHaan’s Green Goblin uses resembles the Goblin Glider from the no Way Home trailer. Also, the razor bats seen in the no Way Home trailer scene featuring the Other Goblin are also similar to the ones used by DeHaan’s Goblin briefly used in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But DeHaan’s Goblin uses it more like a dagger instead of a projectile. Dane DeHaan’s Goblin Glider also features green lights just like the one in the no Way Home trailer.
Conclusion – Who Is Actually The New Harry Osborn Goblin In The No Way Home Trailer?
From what we have gathered so far, the other Goblin in the No Way Home Trailer features a version of Harry Osborn’s Goblin from both previous Spider-Man franchises. The Other Goblin definitely inherits a lot more from Dane DeHaan’s Goblin than James Franco’s Goblin. So it may be possible that the other goblin in actually DeHaan. The change in appearance could be a well-known Marvel tactic to throw fans off the scent. while we all wanted it to be Franco, it looks like Marvel is hell-bent on bringing in the sinister Six. Dane DeHaan, unlike James Franco, played a Harry Osborn that was a villain through and through. The circle is now complete. The game is afoot.
