On the show Hot Ones, the 52-year-old shared the craziest sporting event he has ever attended. He revealed it was a Boca Juniors match in Argentina in 2008. The actor was in Argentina spending the holidays with his family since his wife, Luciana Barroso, is from Argentina.
The Martian actor intended to attend the game, but he got absurd advice from Barroso’s uncle. He revealed,
“I said to my wife’s uncle, ‘Hey, can we go to this game?’ And he got very serious and said, ‘We can go, we can go … no women, no children.’”
Damon was initially taken aback but eventually understood what his uncle really meant. He further described the seating arrangement of the stadium and added,
“We had to go through three police checkpoints. There were fences with barbed wire, I mean, it was totally crazy. There were policemen in riot gear. If this were the field, people were sitting here and here. From both sides. But there was no one sitting here, in the best seats. Because that was a place where people could throw things and hit themselves.”
The experience of Matt Damon goes beyond what happens in the game. After the game, supporters of the losing team were exiting the stadium. Damon believed that now would be the ideal time for them to depart. He was kept at the stadium for an additional 45 minutes following the game.
