“No! You gotta sashay away!”: Ryan Reynolds Constantly Reminding His Deadpool Stunt Double to Be More Feminine Instead of “Macho” Proves Why the Movies Work Best
- Ryan Reynolds has been giving his best to the Deadpool movies since the first film.
- He revealed how he tries to get stunt doubles to make Deadpool look feminine.
- He is open to the Merc with the Mouth having a boyfriend in the upcoming movies.
Ryan Reynolds is living proof of the fact that when someone does what they love, they can never fail, and it is no secret just how much he loves portraying Deadpool. On more than one occasion, he has proved that he truly understands the character in a way that he knows best how to play it on screen.
This is one of the reasons why the fans love the Deadpool movies and can never imagine anyone but Reynolds portraying him. Besides his combat skills and dark sense of humor, the vigilante superhero is also well-known for exhibiting a feminine side which is absent in most superheroes as the focus for them is on being macho as possible.
Reynolds, on the other hand, does not hesitate a bit in letting his anti-hero character have feminine body language at all. One of the biggest proofs of that is him demanding his stunt double to maintain that kind of body language instead of making it manly.
Ryan Reynolds Refuses to Compromise Deadpool’s Body Language
At this point, it is a universal fact that the chances of Deadpool having a big screen adaptation were quite low if Ryan Reynolds had not intervened and quite literally put in his everything to make it happen. History repeated itself when the third movie of the franchise came into question.
After Disney’s acquisition of Fox, Marvel began giving the movie some thought. However, it took years for Reynolds and Shawn Levy to get the film green-lit. In fact, it was Hugh Jackman’s interest to return as Wolverine that lured the studio into letting the film happen. Safe to say that the studio has benefitted largely from this decision with the movie going well past the $1 billion mark at the global box-office.
Reynolds has shouldered the responsibility of playing the character well to the point that he had his stunt double have a feminine body language. During his appearance on the Not Skinny but Not Fat podcast, he said that in most comic movies, the superheroes are shown as “macho” men.
Stunt guys would do a stunt for me, but they would look so badass doing it. I’m like, ‘No! You gotta sashay away! You don’t just walk away!’
Consequently, Reynolds has to do those scenes again. When the host asked if he ends up doing most of his stunts himself, he said that he did. He further added that he has a stunt double named Alex Kyshkovych, who has been working with the actor since the first film.
Ryan Reynolds Would Not Mind Exploring Deadpool’s Pans*xuality
The Merc with the Mouth is a pansexual character. So, although he is shown to be in a heteros*xual relationship in the movies thus far, he also has homos*xual inclinations. In an interview with Variety back in 2016, Reynolds expressed his desire to explore that facet of the character.
I love that about Deadpool. I love that he can break any boundary. In the future, I hope we get to do that more.
In fact, Reynolds would not mind Deadpool having a boyfriend at some point.
I certainly wouldn’t be the guy standing in the way of that. That would be great.
So, fans need not be surprised if the vigilante ends up having a boyfriend or two in the upcoming movies. In the meantime, they can enjoy watching Deadpool & Wolverine, which is in theatres right now.
