Marvel Studios’ upcoming miniseries Ironheart was created by Chinaka Hodge and is intended to be the series produced by Marvel Studios via its Marvel Television label. The series is going to star Dominique Thorne as the titular character, Anthony Ramos, Lyric Ross, Manny Montana, and more. The miniseries will consist of six episodes and is expected to premiere in 2025.
Thorne’s Riri Williams returns to her home in Chicago after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and discovers secrets that pit technology against magic. A recent update from an industry insider reveals that one of Marvel’s most notable and powerful supervillains will be making an appearance on the show.
Mephisto to make an appearance in Marvel Studios’s Ironheart
One of the surprises that Marvel fans received at the D23 Expo in August was the trailer for the series’ highly anticipated miniseries Ironheart. Dominique Thorne, who plays Riri Williams and Ironheart, was initially introduced in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, who helped Shuri and the people of Wakanda defeat Namor.
Fans were thrilled to finally have a trailer for the series but also wondered if the series was going to introduce Marvel’s most notable and powerful supervillain, Mephisto. Actor Sacha Baron Cohen is rumored to be playing the character.
Now, according to reports by Cosmic Circus’ discord, Alex Perez was asked about Mephisto’s role in the upcoming miniseries Ironheart, to which he has answered,
A very light-supporting role.
Talking about the history of the character, it’s known to be as old as Marvel Universe. Mephisto is one of the powerful rulers of a realm he dubs ‘Hell’. It has been said that Mephisto was jealous of the fact that people worshiped the firefire demon Zarathos, which is why he created the Ghost Rider by bonding demons with human hosts.
Mephisto is reportedly responsible for driving Wanda Maximoff insane upon her discovery that her sons were mere fragments of his essence, which he lost when he lost the battle to Franklin Richards. The supervillain is also responsible for changing the timelines of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. Mephisto was recently mentioned in Agatha All Along, and fans desperately waited for the character to show up, but he didn’t.
Deadline had reported about actor Sacha Baron Cohen being considered for the part in the upcoming series. However, nothing was confirmed. Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer, in her conversation with THR, touched upon the subject of Mephisto’s name drop in the episode. She said,
It was a conversation with executive producer Mary Livanos, Brad Winderbaum, and Kevin Feige, but it is a mention that is larger than this show and me. It’s the larger Marvel-ness of it. So it’s not about me bristling or having any kind of reaction or agenda, mostly because that type of fevered discourse that is very rooted in the comics is not as interesting to me as the current story being told in the series at hand.
Marvel Studios is yet to confirm the news of Mephisto being a part of Ironheart.
Dominique Thorne talks about what the audience can expect from Ironheart
The young actress Dominique Thorne’s character impressed Marvel fans by building her armored suit to make Tony Stark in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. At the D23 Expo, she talks about Ironheart and mentions (via EW),
Once this show begins, we’ll see the same girl that we got introduced to in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but this time around we’re getting a deeper dive.
The actress added that the show is going to take place after the events of Black Panther2, and the audience is going to get a kind of understanding of who Riri Williams is. She also added that the audience is going to see how the events are changing the way she looks at her whole schtick. She added,
It’s an invitation to explore her roots and her upbringing. We’re taking it back to her hometown of Chicago, and a bit of a battle ensues as she’s debating between or considering how she wants to use what she realizes is a powerful wealth of knowledge, realizing just how much genius she has in her, and deciding what she’s going to do with that.
Dominique Thorne added that once Riri is back in Chicago, she is going to ask herself questions like how she is going to use the things that she knows about herself. Anthony Ramos, who plays Parker Robbins, a.k.a. the Hood, says all the characters will be asking the same question to themselves. Now with Mephisto’s addition, the anticipation for the miniseries has only increased, as the ardent fans would love to know how a supervillain will fit in.
Ironheart is expected to be released in 2025. Agatha All Along is streaming on Disney+.
