“Not Even a Question”: Chris Evans Confessed He Loved Playing One Role More Than Captain America Because It Was Real Acting
Chris Evans is one of the most renowned male actors in the world. Having started his career on TV back in 2000, Evans went on to play significant roles in major blockbuster movies.
Despite playing a wide variety of roles, Chris Evans is majorly known for playing the role of Captain America. However, Evans once made a rather shocking claim by suggesting he enjoyed playing one of his roles more than Captain America.
Which role did Chris Evans enjoy more than Captain America?
Chris Evans starred in Puncture back in 2011. While the movie failed to make an impact at box office, it happens to be one of his favourite roles. In the movie, Evans played the role of Mike Weiss, a young lawyer and drug addict. Interestingly, the movie is based on a true story of a Houston attorney who agrees to take on a case to investigate why hospitals refuse to purchase retractable safety needles to prevent staffers from being infected as a result of contaminated needles.
During an interview with Movie Fone, Evans compared his role in Puncture to that of Captain America and said:
“With Captain America, like I said, you might have three lines of dialogue the whole day. And there are just a million angles and a million set-ups and it’s tedious. This [snapping] you’ve got to go, go, go. You’ve got two takes and you had better move on. You’ve got to be prepared. You work. You work! You know, you come home and you feel like, I went to work today. I acted. I made a movie. It was good.”
Further, Chris Evans was asked if he had enjoyed doing a movie like this more than Captain America, to which replied by saying:
“Yes. No question. Not even a question.”
Chris Evans was convinced to join the MCU by Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans are known to be very good friends. Moreover, it was the Lost in Translation star who convinced Evans to join the Marvel Comic Universe. While speaking to Variety, she opened up about how she talked to Evans about Captain America and tried to make him understand the significance of the role. She said:
“I talked to him a little about it because I had already signed on to do Iron Man. Of course, the pressure wasn’t on my shoulders like it was on Chris’. I was playing a character that Marvel was invested in, but we didn’t know if the audience was going to be totally behind the Widow at that point. It was like I was dipping my toe in. He was taking the full brunt of the production on his shoulders. It can feel like a gilded cage at times.”
Fans certainly owe Scarlett Johansson a thank you for pursuing Chris Evans to be a part of the Marvel Comic Universe as it’s really hard to imagine anyone else playing the role of Captain America apart from Evans.
