Since its release, The Big Bang Theory has always been one of the most loved of all American comedy shows. The fact that it lasted for 12 seasons is enough proof of how popular the show is. Despite the love fans have for all the characters the discussion around more than one central character has always been up for discussion.

And the most recurring discussion has been none other than the girl next door character Penny, played by Kaley Cuoco and Kunal Nayyar’s Rajesh Koothrapali.

The main issues put forward by people have been the shallow and one-dimensional characteristics of the characters despite being regular and one of the main characters at that. The creator of the show, Chuck Lorre also agreed with the injustice, especially for Penny.

Being such a popular show, Chuck Lorre’s The Big Bang Theory is known and loved by many people. However, one of its central characters, the nerdy group’s next-door neighbor Penny (played by Kaley Cuoco) has always been questioned due to the stereotypical and one-dimensionality of the character.

Lorre has acknowledged this and has opened up about it in the book titled, The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series. Overall and especially in the earlier seasons, there is no question about how much Penny’s potential was never realized throughout the show. Talking about it he opened up by saying,

“One of the most underwritten characters in the show early on was Penny,”

Furthermore, he also described the character’s potential about her having much more social intelligence as compared to her four nerdy male friends. And along with the portrayal of Penny, the nerdy and misogynistic ways of the four main characters have also been brought to light.

When talking about one-dimensionality, Kunal Nayyar’s Rajesh Koothrapali has also been one of the most racially and nationally stereotyped characters of all.
