The Marvels to serve as the sequel to five MCU projects

Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani lead the highly awaited Marvel Studios’ The Marvels, which is known to be the first Phase 5 theatrical crossover project, but it is not just that. It is additionally going to serve as the sequel movie for five major projects in the MCU.

During a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Larson revealed that she and Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President, felt that their upcoming movie is connected to five previous MCU stories. She said, “This was something Kevin [Feige] and I had talked about from the beginning, that this was the way this story made sense to go.”

It was revealed that Feige, who is the brain behind this sequel, was looking for a way to bring in the characters of Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan together on-screen rather than just putting out a sequel to Captain Marvel.

Further conversation reveals that The Marvels is going to serve as the sequel to Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, in which people saw Carol Danvers for the last time on Earth, WandaVision in which Monica Rambeau appeared, Ms. Marvel in which Kamala Khan appeared, and Secret Invasion. Samuel L. Jackson, who is currently appearing in Secret Invasion mentioned, “Secret Invasion has to happen so that The Marvels can happen”, hinting that the two stories are connected interestingly.

During the conversation, Parris shared, “I’m excited that the MCU has three lead women, all from very diverse backgrounds, and they’re all baddies in their own way. It’s going to be really exciting just to see these smart, fun, intelligent, and troubled women find their way.”

Larson also chimed in and said that the movie is going to serve as a great metaphor for learning how to be a team, adding that it clearly shows that one person cannot do it all and they must need all kinds of skill sets, people with various perspectives and point of views to survive and here save the world.

Executive producer Mary Livanos also added that always in the back of her head was a story based on a family reconnection and how hard that can be to navigate when asked about the inclusion of Monica as a smaller child in Captain Marvel.

Not only is The Marvels a woman – led movie, but it is also directed by Nia DaCosta, who is going to be the first black woman and fourth woman to direct a MCU movie. DaCoasta has also co-written the screenplay with Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells for The Marvels, which is slated to release on November 10th, 2023.
