Shawn Mendes, widely known for his impressive music, has been making headlines again, and his new music is not the only reason behind it. He recently tweeted a video of himself vibing and singing along to a religious song, giving fans a flashback from when one of pop icon Sabrina Carpenter’s exes turned to Christianity.

Mendes’ love life has often been a topic of discussion due to the on-again and off-again nature of his relationship with singer Camila Cabello. He was also briefly linked to Carpenter after one of his break-ups with Cabello.

Although the relationship with the Espresso singer did not last long, he is stirring concerns regarding his religious faith. This is primarily because Carpenter’s ex-boyfriend Joshua Bassett became a devout Christian after his relationship with the songstress ended.

Both Shawn Mendes and Sabrina Carpenter are pop music sensations these days. While the former gained widespread popularity with his incredible music, Carpenter’s rise to stardom as a musician was more gradual as she was initially known for her work with Disney.

The past couple of years have seen Carpenter achieve more and more fame for her hit singles like Vicious and Nonsense from the album Emails I Can’t Send. Most recently, she has broken records with the summer hits Espresso and Please Please Please from her latest album Short n’ Sweet.

Besides her music, Carpenter also made headlines for her love life. She was reportedly involved in a controversial love triangle with Joshua Bassett and his co-star Olivia Rodrigo a couple of years ago. Not so long ago, she was also romantically linked to Shawn Mendes with whom she was spotted at several places.

After their alleged break-up in 2021, Bassett embarked on a journey that led him to Christianity. Now, with Mendes posting a video of himself on X vibing to Donald Lawrence’s Gospel-inspired song Deliver Me, fans have begun wondering if there is a pattern Carpenter’s exes fall into.

That said, it has to be noted that this is not the first time Mendes has commented on religion or spirituality. He has often expressed interest in these things in the past few years including an interview with Billboard in 2022 and then again with Sorted in early 2023.

Carpenter’s relationship with Bassett and the subsequent artistic fight with his ex-girlfriend Olivia Rodrigo received huge media coverage. While Bassett remained supportive of both female artists, Rodrigo and Carpenter seemed to be beefing with each other through their songs, Driver’s License and Skin respectively.

However, Bassett and Carpenter’s relationship allegedly ended in late 2021. In January 2023, the former posted his thoughts about God on X which led to a lot of speculations about his faith. A month later, he posted on X again to announce that he had gotten baptized.

Earlier this month, during his appearance on the Zach Sang Show, the artist recounted his transformative journey. He said that it was an ayahuasca trip that profoundly changed his outlook on life. His strong belief in God is quite evident from how he talks about his experiences.
