Lizzo’s musical awakening happened after she moved to Houston

Grammy award-winning artist Lizzo moved to Houston, Texas, at the age of 9, and according to The Cut, music was her only savior and babysitter. She learned how to play the flute after her school’s band director asked her if she was interested in playing. The music artist was so good at it that she was even invited to play former U.S. President James Madison’s historical crystal flute at the Library of Congress.

In her interview with CBS Sunday Morning, she said,

We had a really cool band at Youngblood Intermediate . My band director would make us play all the songs on the radio, and we would dance. So when we had concerts in the gym, the parents would come. And they would just like to get lit and be dancing in the stands.

She later formed a rap group, Cornrow Clique, and during her interview with Radio Milwaukee in 2016, she mentioned that Lizzo is her nickname, which came from her school in Houston. She added that she was the first rap crew member, Cornrow Clique, and everyone in her crew would take their name, shorten it, and put an o at the end. She mentioned that her name stayed with her and has made her the most comfortable.

The singer-actress revealed to Vanity Fair that she decided to keep her love for Radiohead a secret because she feared she’d be bullied. Lizzo found it very hard to cope with music after her father passed away in 2010 until years later she started writing to the beats of Lava Bangers. She explained on Radio Milwaukee;

Lazerbreak allowed me to make a mix tape using his beats; Ryan Olson facilitated the recording and executive produced it, which was put on Totally Gross National Product. Thus, I became a solo artist.

Her EP, Coconut Oil, which was aimed at connecting with black women, was an instant hit, and was inspired by her self-care journey. But it was her Truth Hurts song that added to her popularity and mainstream success. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Lizzo’s net worth is $40 million.

After years of hard work and success, Lizzo has always been open about how fame and social media affected her. She isn’t afraid to take breaks and be honest about how she feels.

Lizzo is endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris during the Detroit rally

The 36-year-old singer proudly endorses Vice President Kamal Harris for the upcoming 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. She appeared during Harris’ Detroit campaign event and said (via Rolling Stones),

I’m so proud to be from this city; you know they say if Kamala wins, then the whole country will be like Detroit. Proud like Detroit, resilient like Detroit. The same Detroit that innovated the auto industry and the music industry. Put some respect on Detroit’s name.

The singer addressed the audience by asking if America is ready to have its first woman president. She added that she’s only got one thing to say, i.e., ‘It’s about damn time.’ The Grammy award-winning artist urged the people to go and vote, adding that their votes matter because if it didn’t, then voter suppression would not exist; if their votes didn’t matter, their ancestors wouldn’t have marched and fought for the right to vote.

Harris addressed the comments made by Donald Trump about Detroit by saying that he has once again trashed another American city when he was in Detroit. She noted that it’s one more piece of evidence on why he is unfit to be the president of the United States (via Yahoo).
