As the Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting closer to wrapping up phase five of The Multiverse Saga, which is just two films away, there is a buzz about an important event in The Infinity Saga the ‘Blip’ which still affects the MCU’s timeline.

The Blip was an event in The Infinity Saga in which Thanos, welding all the six Infinity stones uprooted half of the livelihood in the universe, which was shown in the third act of Avengers: Infinity War (2018). As showcased in Avengers: Endgame (2019), five years later to the event, the Avengers travel back to particular points in the timeline and restore everyone to life.

According to a Reddit user, MCU failed to portray the importance of the big event of the Infinity Saga and kept it unexplored which still affects the narrative of their ongoing films and series which are part of the Multiverse.

A community page on Reddit explained the significance of the Blip on their page. The Reddit user r/MavrickIndigo titled the post “The Blip was terrible for long-term storytelling.” The user explained that the ongoing MCU’s Phase 4 and Phase 5 projects feel “incomplete” as they haven’t been able to explain the reference to that destructive event which took place in Avengers: Infinity War of the Infinity Saga, which was directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo.

The argument clarified that none of the projects of the Multiverse Saga showed the repercussions of the Blip, in their films or series. The audience never got to know if the character was wiped out from the universe for five years. The Redditor added that while watching Moonknight (2022 series) the fact was left unrevealed if “Marc was blipped or if he was out Moonknighting during the five-year gap.”  (Source: Reddit)

The post also stated, “It doesn’t help with the fact that when they try to address it as a major plot point, it kinda fell flat on its face.” Adding to that, the Reddit user mentioned it would be a “large elephant in the room” what the regular MCU viewers will think about it and this might be mishandled until the production company finds some solution to it.

How is Marvel’s “The Blip” Different From The One Mentioned In The Comic Book?

Unlike the MCU films, the initial part of the Blip happened in Marvel Comics’ 1991 book “The Infinity Gauntlet,” written by Jim Starlin and pencilled by  George Pérez and Ron Lim. In comics, the Blip is called the ‘Snap’ which was carried out by Thanos to impress the female personification of Death. Death is an abstract entity which is depicted as a skeleton which is cloaked in a black or purple robe.

To prove his love to Death, Thanos collects the six infinity stones to create a gauntlet and wipes out half of the living beings of the universe. The superheroes become aware of the event and take immediate action against Thanos, where The Snap and numerous acts are undone by Nebula and Warlock, who reveal that Thanos let himself get defeated as he was not worthy of the ultimate power.

Furthermore, Thanos teams up with Warlock as a part of Infinity Watch to fight against the odds of the universe. As The Snap is reversed on its occurrence, there are no long-term repercussions to it just like in the MCU. Instead, the instead the infinity stones are divided among the members of the Infinity Watch and The Reality Stone is handed over to Thanos. In comics, these stones play a role in the future narrative of the comics.

In Avengers: Endgame, as the gauntlet is taken away from Thanos, Tony Stark aka Iron Man does the Blip and wipes out Thanos and his associates including himself.
