Directed by Joseph Sargent, the 1987 horror film Jaws: The Revenge is the fourth and final movie in the Jaws franchise and stars Lorraine Gary, Lance Guest, Karen Young, and Sir Michael Caine. The movie that followed the events of Jaws 2 and retroactively ignored the events of Jaws 3 was the lowest-grossing movie of the franchise.

Upon its release, it was criticized for a weak storyline, poor acting, and bad effects. The movie won the Worst Visual Effects award at the 8th Golden Raspberry Awards. It holds a 2% critic score and a 15% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Sir Michael Caine, appeared as Hoagie Newcombe, a charter pilot in the movie. Newcombe becomes a love interest to Lorraine Gary’s character Ellen Brody and helps the leading lady to fight the shark in the climax. The actor was not pleased with his work but did not regret taking up the role and he has explained why.

In an interview with RareMedia, Sir Michael Caine was asked about buying his mother a house, and he explained,

It was incredible for me for my mother to have a house because we grew up in council houses. What I did was, one of the worst pictures I did was a picture I think was called Jaws: The Revenge. I had a little part in that, and I was paid a million dollars for two weeks of work.

Michael Caine noted that with the money he got for playing Hoagie Newcombe, he bought a house for his mother. He added that someone told him that they had watched Jaws: The Revenge, and it stinks, to which he replied by saying that he had not seen it, but he had seen the house he bought his mother, and it’s marvelous.

Sir Michael Caine announces non-fiction book; Don’t Look Back, You’ll Trip Over: My Guide to Life

The retired actor announced on August 5th, 2024, that he is ready to share the lessons he has learned throughout his life and career with the world in his upcoming non-fiction book Don’t Look Back, You’ll Trip Over: My Guide to Life. It is going to be a follow-up to his 2018 memoir, Blowing the Bloody Doors Off. The actor shared a statement with People,

I’m always asked questions—by fans, by other actors and friends, by my grandchildren. They want to know how I’ve lasted so long—how I handle fame—why I chose to do some of my films—which films and actors I like best, and so forth. They also want to know what makes me tick, what makes me get up in the morning in my 90s, and whether I’ll ever retire. (The answer to that one is NO!)
