Natalie Portman has been in the Hollywood entertainment industry for decades now. Apart from her excellent acting skills, she has also often been praised for her charm and wit. Not to mention her advocacy for women’s rights and education.
Portman might have begun her journey in the industry as a child actress, but even back then, she was as elegant as ever. An old interview proves that she also happens to have great comedic timing as she managed to embarrass actor Alec Baldwin who was also a guest at the interview.
Natalie Portman Embarrassed Alec Baldwin With Her Comedic Timing
Natalie Portman first gained recognition as an actress for her performance as the young mentee of a hitman in the 1994 movie Léon: The Professional. She starred in several other movies and also made her Broadway debut while she was in high school before rising to international stardom as Padmé Amidala in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.
In 1994, she had a role in the movie Beautiful Girls and appeared as a guest in an episode of Late Show with David Letterman to promote the film. Alec Baldwin, who had already established himself as a megastar by this time, was also a guest in the episode and was there to promote his movie The Juror.
During the interview, Letterman asked Portman if she ever got in trouble in school. She replied that she does not really get in trouble in school, but one time she watching the movie Threesome with her friends, and one of her friend’s mother walked in at an unfortunate time as an intimate scene came up in the film. Luckily, her friend was quick and made up an excuse to distract her mother.
When asked who were the actors in the film, Portman said it had Lara Flynn Boyle and pointed at Baldwin as she said, “One of your brothers,” before bursting into laughter while The Cooler star sat there with an awkward smile before joking that one of the Baldwin brothers would find a way to corrupt Portman.
David Letterman Also Did Not Spare Alec Baldwin During the Interview
Elsewhere in the interview, the MCU actress also said that she was a straight-A student which led to Letterman asking Baldwin about his grades in school. The Departed actor pretended to not have heard the question as he asked the host if he had said something. Evidently, Baldwin was not having the time of his life at that interview.
That said, Portman’s Beautiful Girls was a critical and commercial success with a global box-office collection of $27 million (via Box Office Mojo). On the other hand, Baldwin’s The Juror was not only a box-office failure but also got highly negative reviews, especially for Demi Moore’s poor performance.
