One Piece: 5 Greatest Feats of Monkey D. Luffy as Fans Celebrate the Birthday of The Future King of Pirates
As the protagonist of Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus, One Piece, Monkey D. Luffy has undergone some challenges and fought some opponents whose names are enough to ignite fear in most people. However, Luffy challenged these opponents openly with the trademark smile on his face and even succeeded in defeating some of the greatest opponents in the series.
Armed with a will of iron and unshakeable determination, Luffy, along with his crew, has achieved some feats that warrant him the title of the next Pirate King. From the conquest of naval strongholds to the liberation of oppressed nations, the protagonist of One Piece has accomplished many things on his journey to become the Pirate King. However, there are some that are greater than others. Here is a list of the 5 greatest feats of Monkey D. Luffy.
No. 5: The Only Man To Successfully Attack Enies Lobby
Enies Lobby was one of the three main islands of the World Government. This arc is considered one of the best arcs of the series as Luffy and his crew mates infiltrated the judicial island to rescue Nico Robin. In the Water 7 Saga One Piece, Nico Robin was taken away from the Straw Hat Pirates by CP-9 in an attempt to revive the Ancient Weapon Pluton in exchange for protecting the Straw Hat Pirates from a Buster Call.
Luffy stormed the Government stronghold without any hesitation and followed Nico Robin all the way to the Enies Lobby. As a battle ensued between the Straw Hat Pirates the CP-9, Enies Lobby was destroyed by the Buster Attack while Luffy and his crew emerged unscathed, becoming the first ones to successfully attack the government island.
No. 4: Defeated The Strongest Sweet Commander, Charlotte Katakuri
Luffy faced numerous opponents throughout his journey; some he was able to defeat easily, while others posed more of a threat. One such fight that is still talked about today among fans is his fight with Charlotte Katakuri. Luffy went all the way to Whole Cake Island and fought against mighty Big Mom Pirates to retrieve Sanji.
Charlotte Katakuri, the strongest Sweet Commander, was one of Luffy’s most formidable opponents thanks to his Mochi Mochi no Mi powers. However, Luffy defeated Sweet Commander Cracker in the Seducing Woods, followed by Charlotte Katakuri in the Mirro World. Prior to his battle against Luffy, Charlotte Katakuri did not lose a single battle, which only proves the threat he posed to the Straw Hats, but Luffy got the best of him.
No. 3: Luffy Defeated Kaido
Kaido was known as the King of Beasts, amassing a jaw-dropping fortune of 4,611,100,000 berries at his peak in One Piece. Due to the incredible strength he possessed, Kaido was often referred to as the strongest creature in the One Piece world. Luffy and Kaido’s battle had been raging on for months with Kaido having the upper hand in most of their battles.
However, the Straw Hat captain finally took down Kaido in a fearsome battle. Luffy had to learn how to conquer Kaido’s overwhelming haki and devil fruit attacks because even his strongest gear was no match for the tremendous power that Kaido had. Luffy was finally able to defeat Kaido after awakening his advanced Conqueror’s Haki and later awakening his devil fruit powers.
No. 2: Became a Yonko At The Age Of 19
Luffy’s accomplishments earned him the title of the 5th Emperor of the Sea after receiving a reward of 1.5 billion berries. Although some people resented the idea, such as Blackbeard, believing that Luffy did not merit the title yet, things definitely took a turn after he defeated Kaido.
After Luffy’s victory over Kaido, the World Government had no choice but to recognize him as an Emperor of the Sea, raising his bounty to 3 billion berries. Luffy’s elevation to the position of Emperor was made even more special, given that he achieved it at the tender age of 19. Even the previous youngest Emperor, Shanks, reached this position in his 30s.
No. 1: Unlocking Gear Fifth
In order for a user to experience an awakening, the user’s mind and body must catch up to the strength of the devil fruit. Even Kaido, the King of Beasts, had not yet awakened his devil fruit, so one can only imagine the difficulty involved in doing so.
On the other hand, Luffy awakened his devil fruit during his final battle with Kaido in Onigashima. Even with his superior Conqueror’s Haki, Luffy could not match Kaido in strength and power. It was only after he unlocked his Gear 5 that he was able to evenly match Kaido, and ultimately defeat him.
