One Piece: Eiichiro Oda Might Have Dropped a Hint There Exists a Scarier Version of Luffy’s Gear 5
One Piece Chapter #1115 tantalized fans with the glimpse of the mysterious Joy Boy, and although not much has been revealed about the character, the fact that the silhouette of Joy Boy resembles Luffy says a lot. This makes sense because Joy Boy also had the powers of the Human-Human Devil Fruit, Model: Nika.
However, while Joy Boy’s transformation resembled Luffy’s Gear 5 to a large extent, Eiichiro Oda seems to have included many significant differences. These changes between Joy Boy’s form and Luffy’s latest transformation hint at the fact that the Straw Hat captain could become stronger. If Luffy awakens a new transformation, he could even rival the Gorosei, which would give the Straw Hat pirates an edge in the battle of Egghead Island.
Joy Boy Could Have Unlocked a More Powerful Form Than Luffy’s Gear 5
Chapter #1115 of One Piece manga showed Vegapunk revealing to the world that the first pirate to ever exist fought against the World Government during the Void Century. As the scientist speaks, a flashback revealing Joy Boy’s silhouette can be seen.
Joy Boy’s portrayal has a striking resemblance to Luffy’s in Gear 5. However, several minor but noteworthy variations could indicate Joy Boy is in an even more potent version. Although The First Pirate is probably in Gear 5, his hair is significantly pointier than Luffy’s.
Instead of the iconic white smoke that surrounds the Straw Hat captain in his Gear 5 form, Joy Boy’s smoke appears to be black, like those of the Gorosei. Finally, he appears to be taking a more combative position. These variations might arise from Joy Boy attaining a power greater than Gear 5, which enabled him to engage in hand-to-hand combat with the Gorosei and their terrifying transformations.
Monkey D. Luffy Has The Potential To Be a Threat To The World Government
Although we saw Luffy struggle during the Egghead Island arc to hold his own against one of the Gorosei, it is possible that Luffy can advance his powers and become a threat to the World Government.
Though it doesn’t seem like Luffy is powerful enough right now to stop Imu’s emissaries, the young pirate has been pushing himself beyond his comfort zone. This seems odd, as Joy Boy was supposedly able to defeat creatures as strong as the Gorosei on his own by harnessing the power of the Model—Nika fruit.
It makes sense that Luffy might not have reached the full extent of his potential given that he is still unable to accomplish such a significant task. Eiichiro Oda may be waiting to provide Luffy with a new transformation that will give him the strength he needs to overcome these incredibly strong opponents.
By doing this, the Straw Hat captain would develop into a warrior strong enough to overthrow the world’s oppressors, fulfilling the prophecy of Joy Boy’s eventual return. This new shape might resemble the one Joy Boy was using in the previous memory.
One of the greatest mysteries in One Piece has been Joy Boy’s relationship to Luffy for a long time. Oda appears to be exerting a great deal of effort to unravel the mysteries surrounding this figure because this is the manga’s last story. In Luffy’s battle with the 5 Elders, Joy Boy’s actual strength and the reason the World Government dreaded him so much could soon be discovered.
