In the SBS of One Piece Volume 98, Eiichiro Oda reveals what Devil Fruit powers the rest of Straw Hat Pirates would have gained in an alternate storyline. The SBS Question Corner is a special corner where Eiichiro Oda answers interesting fan questions about One Piece. The SBS or “Shitsumon o Boshū Suru?” literally translates to “I’m Taking Questions?” which provides exclusive information on One Piece that can’t be addressed in the manga itself.

Although some of the fan questions can be highly uncomfortable due to their sexual nature, that doesn’t stop Oda from making a silly comment or two. However, some answers help fans appreciate the series more. It would seem Oda’s latest revelation about the Straw Hat pirates’ Devil Fruit powers would fall in the latter half.

Which Devil Fruits Would Have Zoro and Sanji Eaten?

Unlike Nami’s Devil Fruit, the Rumble-Rumble Fruit, which would have enhanced her Clima-tact tool, Zoro and Sanji’s Devil Fruits do not correspond to their characters, which is quite a surprise. According to Oda in the Vol. 98 SBS, Zoro would receive Kaido’s potent Mythical Zoan Fish-Fish fruit, which allows its user to turn into a dragon and Sanji would receive the Swim-Swim Fruit, which allows its user to swim through solid surfaces.

The other two crew members’ fruits were considerably more in line with their personalities. The Pocket-Pocket Fruit that Usopp would gain would give his body an infinite supply of pockets—ideal for a sharpshooter like him who needs extra space to stash his ammunition. Meanwhile, Franky would obtain the Arms-Arms Fruit, which would allow him to transform any part of his body into a weapon, perfect for a cyborg who can already transform sections of his body into weapons.

Why Did Zoro and Sanji Receive Different Devil Fruits?

The reason why both Zoro and Sanji’s Devil Fruits are not an ideal match for them boils down to their inherent power levels. Since they are both combative in nature, they don’t need the additional powers of a Devil Fruit. Oda further says that the fruit would be for Zoro’s sword instead of Zoro himself since it would be cool to see Zoro’s sword transform into a dragon.

Although Sanji and Zoro often knock heads over petty things, it won’t be wrong to say that they have one of the best dynamics among the Straw Hat pirates. Despite having different fighting styles, Sanji has shown on numerous occasions that he can keep up with Zoro. They constantly bicker and challenge each other, refusing to back out of a fight but also share a bond akin to family.

One Piece is available to stream on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
